However, I've seen worse. Worse than calling the Czech Republic "Czechoslovakia" (which I have a theory about, since it is actually a relatively common error even among people who know better: it's just more fun to say!)
A news analyst on PBS said, "Czechosl... I mean .. Chechnia" and then went on to confidently argue for the US missile shield in Chechnia and dismissed the Russians as just wrong about everything, being very smug about it too. And no one corrected her! "Pretending that you already know the answer when you don't is not actually very helpful." ~Migeru.
