Another thing to be noted is that a large proportion of early saints are the result of later sons going into the ministry, being the sons of kings they have a tendancy to end up as , and thus arranging for their parents to be elevated in religious status to ensure they spend the minimum time in purgatory.

In Stephen's case, it went the other way around: the only son of Stephen and his Bavarian wife Gisella died before them, and became the first Hungarian saint. For what deeds, I don't know.
