It is seriously freaky. Creepy. That and the rhythmic gymnastics. I can understand the athleticism in vaulting and balance beams, and that thing the men do where they hold themselves up with those rings - amazing! But prancing about with ribbons? That's a
sport
? Are you serious? I'm a bit concerned that the Russians do so phenomenally well in synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. No wonder the rest of the world doesn't trust them. ;)

And worser, according to wikiP, it was developed in the early 1900s in Canada. I suppose if the development were
immediately
post WW1, we might have some faint excuse (national trauma from Flanders, old boy), but I can't be bothered to find out.
