The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."
Something that has always struck me with this quote is that it is argued from a reality-based point of view. If the quoted truly believes what he is saying, why does he need a rational argument to ignore rational arguments about the messes he is in part responsible for creating?
As such it has always sounded a bit desperate and pleading under the thick triumphalism: I am on the top of the world! Aren't I? A vote for PES is a vote for EPP! A vote for EPP is a vote for PES! Support the coalition, vote EPP-PES in 2009!
one big FU.

We had better fucking well hope so! He and his disciples are not looking too bad right now. Who would have imagined, after the way GWB and Company, guided by Dr. Rove, have screwed the pooch with both the war and the economy that after both conventions it would be essentially tied? As the Dutch said while fighting the Spanish: "It is not necessary to have hope in order to persevere."
This country has had it good for a long time, so we don't produce sharp, intelligent thugs like Castro or Putin.
you are the media you consume.
