which makes me think; you've more or less called Putin a pussy who can't control his country in that essay. Nobody would mind when you're just a blogger, but printing that in the FT means that Putin will see it.

not only that, but a lot of other people in the upper echelons of moscow will see it. Which means that Putin will have to react as he cannot allow a western perception of weakness to lie. Expect a media grandstanding reaction as Putin takes control in the next couple of days.

but you might bolt your doors as well.

Jerome:  DO NOT EAT AT ANY SUSHI RESTAURANTS!

Also beware of sketchy chechen-looking hitmen who knock on your apartment door and announce, "Candygram!"

Probably a good idea to politely decline any invitations to the banya from your former Russian oilmen colleagues.  Just to be safe.

Come, my friends, 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

Putin will discover much respect for the man who called the situation.  It might even give him the cover he needs to change some deal terms and consolidate power in the situation.  AND, he might welcome the beginning of the end of western media's insistence that Russia is always using the Energy WeaponTM against Europe.

Putin will discover much respect for the man who called the situation.

And then, and then Putin and J will become BFFs and then J will set me up on a date with Vlad and Vlad will be all like, well, if Jerome think's she's hot, I do trust his judgement...  And then we'll run away together, but not before J is the best man in our wedding.  And then...

Anyway, back to reality.

I'd stay away from London sushi joints just to be safe.  :)

Here is a TOTAL non-sequitor:

I was watching the McLaughlin Group's year-in-review show.  McLaughlin accused Pat Buchanan of concentrating too much on foreign affairs, and Pat said, "Well, it wouldn't kill you to pick up an FT now and then, John!"

Other highlights, Pat Buchanan and the democrat Eleanor Clift agree the most under recognized person of the year was Howard Dean.  And in the "Sorry to see you go" category, while most people picked dead celebrities, McLaughlin chose to mourn the passing of Capitalism.

Great stuff...

It could also be Daniel Craig...

well, I have sent the link to my Russian friends and some former colleagues, including one who works for Gazprom now.

It's probably no worse than my 2002 article on Gazprom in the WSJ.

Holy cow Batman! You are now writing for the FT?

Wow, you guys have really lowered your standards (just kidding :) Good job! (and watch out for suspicious looking big guys).
