Here, the public TV headline was: "Italian government outraged"...

*Lunatic*, n.

That's their routine reaction. The point of a democratic society is deliberative debate. People and elected officials air and discuss their views in order to contribute to a negotiated solution, how temporary it may be.

Fallacious argumentation is now defined narrowly. It is any attempt to sabotage deliberative debate. That is precisely what Berlusconi does. He is "anthropologically" incapable of debating for the simple reason that he doubts nothing. He is the Truth. He is the Elected One. And he therefore grants himself the right to assault facts, reason, and debate. Discussion is a sign of weakness. And now the common square is nothing more than a place for tirades, outrage, smears, baseless ad personam attacks, contempt.

It's very uncivil but the People applaud.
