Yea, but both JFK and Reagan were shot, so the chance that somebody will want to take a potshot at a President for whatever reason is always gonna be significant. Any president walks around with a target on their back.

The fact that he's black just adds a certain froth to the issue. however, I'm pretty sure the Secret service are pretty damn glad these guys are so open about it, cos it makes their lives a lot easier. It's the quiet ones you never hear about who'd pay the Jackal if it suited them and their motives aren't swayed by the baying of a mob.

I have found this worrisome for quite a while.  I have never been a huge fan of Obama or convinced he has the will to do what is needed, and, to date, not too much has occurred to prove me wrong.  Yet he is far better than anyone that these crazies would like.  Hell, they didn't even like McCain and only held their noses because of Palin. ("She is Ester!" according to an e-mail during the campaign from my sister-in-law!)

In the interview Timothy McVey is invoked. The good thing is that the Oklahoma City bombing proved a turning point for Clinton with the sane majority of the nation. It took the loss of those lives for most to see the craziness of the Right Wing Militia movement. Once that had occurred, it was easier to roll those crazies up.

The fundamentalists had better be careful what they ask for. An assassination attempt, successful or not, by one out of that culture could initiate an Armageddon of a sort different from what they imagine and they could become the new pariahs in the USA. That might be the one thing that could wake up the 20% or so of "independents" that they can sometimes mobilize to win elections. Or perhaps I inhabit an alternate reality.
