But I have photo-bucket and they provide about six different codes you can cut and paste and none of them have worker for me here on ET.  I used the <a href and the photo comes up on preview but when I press post it refuses to post while throwing the book at me!!

You need to replace the < a href=", with < img src=" (without the spaces) and you end the direct URL with "> (no space)

I use photobucket too. I don't copy the html code, but the direct link (second down). I type this in the comment and paste the link in:

<img src="paste direct link between these quotes">

It's simple and it doesn't get stuck in the works.

I use the one marked html code thren edit it by removing everythingup to and including the part where it says blank">

then removing the piece that says  border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a<p> So remove the red text when youve copied the similar piece from your own link
