We're in a gated one now, although I'm not entirely sure why it's gated. Because of the road structure, it's a bit isolated, and there isn't really any crime nearby. (Gates don't really prevent crime, anyway.) Not optimal for making a getaway unless the thief wants to run a mile to the subway, which I suspect isn't easy when carrying a television or a computer.
Still, this worries me about, because I've always loved the little old terraced houses with the bay windows spreading out from the city centers.
