I would find this argument more reassuring if it were not that the expected turnout is going to be by far the lowest in after 6 other election, at a time when the powers of the parliament itself are expanding.

Well it would mean that the EU as is is being taken more and more for granted and the increased powers of the EP (many not implemented until after Lisbon) haven't yet made much of a difference.
