I am comforted by the increasing talk of "collapse" in the US, a topic confined to the Exile just a few years ago.

It is entirely possible that 1945-2005 was the height of industrial civilization. Decline takes the fun out of people. The peak-to-trough part of the business cycle is an outlier. Carnot would have died laughing.
