As the Lisbon treaty includes basic human rights at the EU level as one its good news, it would be good if the president of the more powerful legislative chamber has shown respect for such rights in his or her previous legislative work. And Blair has not.

Examples are plentiful, the Terrorism Act of 2006 is one of the more famous.

A vote for PES is a vote for EPP! A vote for EPP is a vote for PES! Support the coalition, vote EPP-PES in 2009!

The most tragic thing about Tony Blair is that one of the first things he did when he came into power is have the Human Rights Act 1998 (c. 42)
An Act to give further effect to rights and freedoms guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights; to make provision with respect to holders of certain judicial offices who become judges of the European Court of Human Rights; and for connected purposes.

He and his party then spent the better part of the next 10 years undermining it. Specifically, he lobbied strongly to prevent the European Union's bill of right from baing included in the normative part of the Lisbon Treaty.

He has no principles.

The peak-to-trough part of the business cycle is an outlier. Carnot would have died laughing.
