en vérité, a force de photographier, elle prend a la longue le monde déformé et pervers pour le seul véritabletruly, by keeping on taking photos, (they) end up thinking the distorted and perverse world is the only true one

Well, that's what he says. What if photographers were aware that they are producing art, not nature?

Bernhard's belief in undistorted nature is touching. Our eyes and brains interpret and reformulate all the time. A camera is a device that reminds us that that is what we are doing.

MarekNYC:
Sur leurs photographies, les gens sont des poupées ridicules, désaxées au point d'en être méconnaissables, défigurées, oui, qui regardent d'un air effraye leur ignoble objectif, de façon idiote, repoussante. In their photographs, people are ridiculous dolls, so unbalanced as to be unrecognizable, yes, who look at the ignoble lens in fright, in an idiotic and repulsive way.

That, on the other hand, is most true, when I am the subject of a photo!

I'm not sure it's fair to tag Berhnard with the views of his narrator.  What makes this extra crazy is that it comes right on the heels of the narrator looking at the only three photos he owns - one of his two sisters, one of his parents, and one of his brother just after learning of the death of the latter three, all of whom he detests, and musing on how the photos truly capture the essence of their subjects.  PS the 'elle' in the first quote is 'humanity' not 'they'.

Context, context... ;)

True I didn't translate "elle" precisely, but still and all.

My reactions to the rant (amusing) are still the same, though.
