If one isn't thirsty, more water IS an "optional life enhancer" like a movie.  

You are trying to make the comparison between someone who is dying of thirst choosing between going to a movie or drinking water, but that's not where most people interface with that choice.  Most people, given the option of a movie, are not that thirsty.  (Which is one reason why, incidentally, movie theaters sell popcorn -- to make people thirsty for $5 soda pop.)
