LOL. Our favourite insane Geman politician, Wolfgang Clement, SPD/Coal Lobby, just gave his electoral recommendation... for the (neolib) FDP.

I wonder how the idiots who prevented his firing from the party feel now.

Oh, and in the last poll, there is a dead heat between CDU/CSU+FDP on one side and SPD, Left Party and Greens on the other. It seems the choice is between a victory of the bourgeois block, and a continuation of the Grand Coalition -- the latter against the official wishof the parties but widely reputed to be according to the party leaders' private wishes.

The resignation of the entire leadership of the SPD?

They were pretty idiotic about it during the campaign -- repeated reassurances that there won't be coaslitioning with the Left Party, used as occasion by the CDU to 'warn' of the SPD wavering on this promise...

Maybe the SPD will be ready in four years, say if regional coalitions will work out in Saarland or Thuringia. Maybe only after the tainted generation in the East German Left Party and the Cold War mentality generation in the SPD retires.

Meanwhile, Germany's Federal Environment Agency released a study on electriity supply untilk 2020. Init, they deny the claims of the energy giants, right-wing parties, and the coal wing of the SPD about a supposed energy shortage if nuclear plants are shut down as planned and no more new coal-fired plants are built.

Wouldn't a Clement recommendation for the FDP take votes away from the FDP?

I'd hope so... Then again, like Guttenberg now, Clement used to be a very popular minister, I don't know how deep he fell since. (On personal preferences, I just don't get the majority of the German electorate: when I first saw Schröder back in 1997, I instantly thought he is a snake-oil-man, but he was very popular then; similar story for Clement, Köhler.)

Outside of his Ruhrgebiet base, he's really lost face over his coal connections.
