GM is so doomed.

On the other hand, Ford, "man-steps" aside, has introduced two vehicles that may just demonstrate that they've finally got it.  Not a big car guy, but these two hit the right points: Nice-looking and efficient.

Welcome to the 21st Century, Ford.

Make sure to click the GM link, too.  I'm not sure I've ever seen a more overtly homophobic and hilariously fail-tastic ad in my entire life.  And the author's takedown is spot-on.

I thought Top Gear had proven that the best truck is the Toyota Hilux

The Hilux has gained a reputation for exceptional sturdiness and reliability, even during sustained heavy use and/or abuse, and is often referred to as "The Indestructible Car". This was further reinforced on the BBC motoring show Top Gear, when a 1988 Hilux with 190,000 miles (308,000 km) on the odometer was subjected to extraordinary abuse (in series 3, episodes 5 and 6). This consisted of driving it down a flight of steps, scraping buildings, crashing headlong into a tree, being washed out to sea and completely submerged, driving it through a garden shed, dropping a caravan onto it, hitting it with a wrecking ball, setting the cabin and bed area on fire,[6] and, finally, placing it on top of a 240-foot (73 m) block of flats that was subsequently destroyed by a controlled demolition.[7] Although it was now suffering from severe structural damage, the truck was still running after being repaired without spare parts and only with typical tools and equipment that would be found in a car's toolbox, such as screwdrivers, motor oil, and a wrench,[8] however WD40 was used to get the engine going after it had been recovered from the sea. The Hilux currently resides as one of the background decorations in the Top Gear studio.

all of these adventures are on youTube. All other claimants are deemed fraudlulent until we see how they perform after being blown up.

Different sized truck, although I've never understood why 99% of truck-buyers couldn't do with a Tacoma or a Ford Ranger instead of a full-size.  The Hilux -- "Tacoma" in the states -- is a small/compact pickup.

I've never driven one, let alone owned one for a period of time that would tell me how good they were.  But I've known a couple people who owned them, and they all say they're very well built.

Toyota's always been pretty tough trucks.  I still see FJ40s around town, and they stopped building those in the early-'80s.

325,000 miles on it, when I donated it to Habitat for Humanity. They got $450 for it. Little 4-banger that got 27 miles per gallon on the highway, and I carried 2/3 of a ton in it a number of times. My son broke my homemade pipe rack on it 3 times with his various adventures.

My new one is a 2007 model, and it gets 28 mpg on the road. I do plan to take better care of it than I did my red '90, though. Took the repaired rack off of Red and put it on the new one, and my son doesn't get to drive it.

Those Fords look pretty good. Now all they need to do is get the gas mileage up to 50 MPG or so, where it belongs...

I think they're both supposed to come in at around 45.  Not quite there yet, but respectable for a non-hybrid.

I suspect the diesel ones across the Pond would easily clear 50.
