This kind of friction is good for a party.  "Shut up and obey" isn't a very democratic message, and the larger electorate probably doesn't like it too much.

That said, if the fractiousness turns into paralysis you're screwed.

I an not taking this kind of 'loyalty' as a necessarily positive quality. But I have observed a characteristic feature of right-wing activists is an ability to 'get with the program' whereas left-wing activists tend to fractiousness.

I was counting years from the presidential election. Clinton also lost control of the Congress after 2 years, but the Republicans enjoyed control for 12 years in 1994-2006 whereas the Democrats have only had 4 in 2006-10.
