As far as I can tell, the Footsie (UK index of main stocks) is down by about 10% in the past month. so the banks are just down by a bit more (but they went up a lot more in the past 9 months).

What if the banks pulled the Footsie down? At any rate, even if the PIGS can be responsible for a smaller part of the stock price decline, my interpretation is different: this article indicates (a) the vulnerability of the UK economy as the 'next domino', (b) highlights the self-interest behind some of the increasingly panicked 'advice' and rhetoric directed at the PIGS.
