BBC News - Australia uses curry to combat anti-Indian violence

The organisers of a "Vindaloo Against Violence" campaign in Australia say they have had an overwhelming response.

Australians are being urged to dine out at Indian restaurants in a show of solidarity after a string of recent assaults on foreign students.

The day of action has attracted widespread interest online, and aims to help repair Australia's reputation.

This has been tainted by assaults on young Indians in the past year in Melbourne and Sydney.

Al Jazeera English - Middle East - World's tallest tower in UAE closes

The world's tallest skyscraper in Dubai has unexpectedly closed to the public a month after its lavish opening, the tower's owner said.

The Burj Khalifa was closed due to "unexpected high traffic," and "technical issues with the power supply", Emaar Properties said on Monday.

The indefinite closure of the $1.5bn skyscraper on Sunday comes as Dubai struggles to revive its international image as a cutting-edge Arab metropolis amid nagging questions about its financial health.

The Gulf emirate had hoped the 828m high Burj Khalifa would be a major stimulant to boost its tourism economy.

Jedi chapter seeks leader after master resigns * The Register

Surrey's nascent Jedi community is looking for a new leader after the incumbent, Master Ajac, was forced to step down for health reasons.

The Surrey Advertiser reports that the 25 strong group is looking for someone with "a background in martial arts and a deep understanding of the teachings of the Jedi, the religion featured in the Star Wars films

It also notes the ability to keep a secret would be a help - the two year old group meets at an undisclosed location, and while open to new members presumably is wary of being swamped by neophypte padawans.

Terminator rights sold at auction | Filmonic

We've been following the plight of the Terminator rights since it was announced they would be going to auction last November. According to Deadline Hollywood the rights were sold today during a bidding war that lasted 5 hours. Both Sony (who distributed Terminator Salvation) and Lionsgate were interested in the rights, with the latter hoping to make "a complete re-boot, back to basics, with real emotional stories, and effects that will be secondary."

Unfortunately for both studios they were outbid...by an investment advisor.
