Humanure Composting -- one of the more popular articles in the last few years at Feral Scholar.

Composting toilets do not have to be complicated or expensive...

I have one on my boat.  The compost goes into the compost pile in my partner's garden on shore for finishing.  A year later:  excellent topsoil.

the Humanure handbook is a great book!  I think a sustainable solution will always involve both local treatment and local supply.  But these bags are good relief solution as long as they don't become the default system (producing all that urea alone has a significant cost).
