The annoying thing is that with the latest OSX update, Mail now autocorrects pretty much the same way that the iPhone does, and it requires more thorough re-reading. Typos can create strange words.

yes I know. It's useful 90% of the time - it's just that it creates unpredictable changes when you mistype.

... it creates unpredictable changes when you mistype.

for a couple of seconds.

(Dum-dee-dum, dum, dum, dum- DEE-dum)

What bloody good is an autocorrect© that creates unpredictable changes when a word is misspelled?

Perhaps I'm an old & silly kinda guy but isn't the sina qua non of an autocorrect© feature finding the correct spelling for the words you mistype?

I've never found autocorrect or autopredict useful, ever, on any device at all.

My spelling is good anyway, and on a touch-screen phone my fingers are too fat : my problem is hitting the wrong keys, so the possibilities of misinterpretation are limitless.

There is also my Cult of Exceptionalism problem : predictive typing never seems convergent with my unique mental processes.

I also suffer from Fat Finger Syndrome so I've switched off predictive text on my iPhone. However I find it very useful in WP to be 'advised' of misspelling, and I always do a grammar check.

I turn off auto-anything features wherever I can, and I particularly dislike spelling correction. On a phone, I'd rather let a typo go through than the software's guesswork.

I get pissed off with Google for turning stuff back on that I've turned off, and for telling me I probably meant something other than I typed.

Your autocorrect/predictive software didn't notice the "country" error?

PS. You know you're really old when you remember being in the slammer and wearing your own clothes.

I think it was a simple typo - though maybe I've become too dependent on automatic identification of spelling errors.

Color reference to type of crime? (Had noticed that before posting, went ahead anyway partly to see if anyone noticed, he said in hindsight.)

The point being SOPA, not the fact that particularly in amurka, crime is disproportionate, especially with respect to drugs.

But yes, i have too much time on my hands by being expert at procrastination.

Oh, I get the point. But the bad guy real criminal rapist is... racially profiled? While the real innocent downloader who shouldn't be in jail at all is... racially profiled too?

In other words, the point could be better made.

Yet again I fail US races - the one drop rule makes it rather confusing.

I actually thought they were three white guys, but the nerd with glasses had not been out much, thus had no tan.

Far as I understand, the US definition of black hails from the one drop rule that defined a person with any black ancestry as black for purposes of slavery. This definition is not something I grew up with so I have a hard time getting that someone with a tad darker skin then pink is supposed to be black.

To take another example:

Project Implicit® - Select a Test

Race ('Black - White' IAT). This IAT requires the ability to distinguish faces of European and African origin.

I lack the ability to seperate in accordance with the US definition.

If on the other hand it there was a test that required the ability to distinguish faces of Swedish and Finnish origin I could probably do it.
