Did anyone watch the Sarkozy interview ? From blog reports it sounds it was quite incendiary...

I didn't, or my shoe would have gone through the screen. But I'll try to find time later to diary his competitive deflation "decisions".

I haven't. I understand he had to rope in not one or two, but six TV channels to ensure a minimum of viewers. And then he proceeded to announce a slew of revolutionary reforms for his five-year term... which it's coming to an end in less than three months. There's a smell of desperation.

Sarkozy is still not officially running for re-election (or rather he declined to answer the question -- he is the President, he has responsibilities) but it's been told that A.Merkel is going to campaign for him nonetheless.

Europeans think a hundred miles is a long way. Americans think a hundred years is a long time.

I put the TV in mosaic mode to see what was on. Nightmarish : little animated Sarkozy heads on several channels at once.

The headline take-away couldn't be clearer : Hollande promises a higher tax rate for the rich; Sarko promises higher sales tax.
