the weather forecast was for cloud this morning and clearing skies. So naturally there was a torrential rainstorm erly this afternoon.

The weather forecast here was for heavy rain yesterday and sunshine today. So we got heavy rain yesterday and sunshine today.

What is it with English forecasters? If they just predicted rain every day they'd probably do a lot better than they do now.....

There was an interesting discussion on one of the poltics shows here today (sadly I missed the start) where they were saying that a lot of the froth from various parts of the Coalition is because they have largely completed the legislative programme agreed after the election.

So we're now seeing the positioning statements of what they would be doing if they were in power alone. They expected this to become much more pronounced as we approached the party conference season later this year.

Apparently the LibDem conference is the most anticipated because they believe that a lot of the leftwing of the LibDems have self-deported, leaving the party base more right wing and thus more in line with the views of the MPs themsleves. So the expected bloodath of accusations of betrayal we were eagerly expecting may not come to pass.

It's probably a DVD tonight to take my mind off things. Perhaps season 2 of French TV justice procedural - Spiral (Engrenages).

I'm told we could see 10" of rain from the tropical storm hitting us now.  Excellent.

Half time nd it's honours even. Although posession stats suggest the italians have been caning us, it doesn't look like that in terms of good chances.

That said, I think the Italians have shaded it, but it's not over yet.

Oh god, we'd stand more chance if only we could put two passes together without gifting it back to the italians.

I cannot believe the number of times we've just screwed up promising moves because we cannot seem to make the most simple pass.

That's a generous reading.

I would argue that you are extremely lucky that Bolatelli is so ordinary. Even? Really?

Or that Rooney has been so ordinary, or Ashley Young has been shockingly poor.

But both defences have been good. I think it would be nice if we could have a set piece in their box where John terry isn't thrown to the floor as the ball comes over. EVERY TIME.

I certainly agree with that last bit. There should have been penalties before the shoot out. It's almost never called and it's ever so annoying.

Rooney! Bicycle!

Nice!

The last three or four minutes of regular time were quite promising...

Though they'll be playing at walking pace by the end of extra time, poor buggers.

Gah, lost on penalties.

tbh italy deserved it, but I'd have taken the injustice of an underserved victory if it had been offered

Fortunately it's old and wasn't open anymore.
