Since the attacks in London are the main news story all over the world, I thought I'd bring to you what the papers from around Europe are saying.

Where possible, the headlines are translated by me, therefore all errors are solely mine. Click on the name of the country for the full article.

Even if you don't speak the language, you can pick out some of the words. Please note that I've only shown one paper per country, so it does not necessarily reflect the point of view of the entire nation.

I included Andorra in this because it publishes a Catalan-language daily.

Warning: I have included images from many of the papers, so it may load slowly for those on dial-up connections.

Partia Demokratike dėnon me forcė aktin terrorist qė ndodhi dje paradite nė Londėr. Kryetari i PD-sė, Sali Berisha, nė konferencėn e djeshme pėr shtyp dėnoi ashpėr sulmet terroriste qė goditėn dje Londrėn. Berisha tha se i kishte telefonuar ambasadorit tė Britanisė sė Madhe nė Tiranė pėr t'i shprehur ngushėllimet e tij dhe tė PD pėr viktimat e kėtij akti tė rėndė terrorist.

"Unė i telefonava ambasadorit tė Britanisė sė Madhe, zotit Jones, por edhe publikisht dua tė dėnoj me ashpėrsinė mė tė madhe kėto akte tė shėmtuara, tė cilat janė njė goditje qė terroristėt i bėjnė, jo vetėm Londrės, por mbarė qytetėrimit njerėzor", tha Berisha.

Duke i shprehur mbėshtetjen e plotė, simpatinė e thellė qeverisė sė Madhėrisė sė Saj dhe kryeministrit tė Britanisė sė Madhe, familjeve tė viktimave, dhe uruar shėrim pėr tė plagosurit, Partia Demokratike dėnon me ashpėrsinė mė tė madhe kėtė akt.

Berisha tha se kryeministri Bler dhe Britania e Madhe qėndrojnė nė krye tė pėrpjekjeve europiane kundėr terrorizmit, kėtij armiku tė egėr.

"Sot, ata qė janė plagosur, qytetarėt e pafajshėm londinezė qė janė plagosur dhe kanė rėnė nė Londėr, janė nė njė lloj mėnyre martirė tė asaj pėrpjekje tė madhe, tė atij kontributi historik qė kombi dhe qeveria e Britanisė sė Madhe kanė dhėnė dhe po japin nė luftėn kundėr terrorizmit. Ndaj, duke mbėshtetur dhe njėherė qeverinė britanike, i lutem Zotit qė viktimat tė gjejnė paqen, qė tė plagosurit tė shėrohen shpejt dhe kam bindjen se asgjė nuk do tė mund tė pėrkulė vullnetin e qeverisė britanike dhe tė kombit, tė kėsaj Mbretėrie pėr tė mposhtur terrorizmin, sikundėr asgjė nuk lėkund vullnetin tonė pėr tė marrė pjesė nė kėtė pėrpjekje tė madhe, pėr tė qenė solidarė deri nė fund, derisa ky armik i egėr tė marrė ndėshkimin e plotė dhe pėrfundimtar qė meriton", u shpreh Berisha.

"Sooner or later we would be bombed"

London - Thousands of shocked travelers, Londoners and tourists alike, tried to get home. The police force asked everyone to avoid the areas where the bombs went off. But near the subway and stations, the streets were full of people.

"Those dirty bastards. They chose King's Cross on purpose. It is symbolizes the city for all Londoners," said Margaret angrily. This London union worker was returning home after a meeting in Brussells. In 1987, in the same North London subway station, 31 people died in a fire. By midday, the police had announced 21 dead but this time they were the victim of a terrorist bomb attack, not of a smouldering cigarette butt.

Vahvistettujen kuolonuhrien lukumäärä määrä on 37. Haavoittuneita kerrottiin olevan 700. Epäselvää on se, sisältääkö viranomaisten antama luku bussiräjähdyksessä surmansa saaneet. Loukkaantuneista kolmisensataa vietiin sairaalahoitoon ambulanssilla. Kymmenien vammoja luonnehdittiin vakaviksi.

Trauma in England - Awe in Humanity

The world again lives the nightmare of September 11...

Islamic terrorism spoiled the party of London for being chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games, and the English capital has sunk into bereavement and fear - as well as all of Europe. The terrorists simultaneously sent a "message of force" fo the leaders of the G8 who were sitting a few hundred kilometers north in Scotland.

While 37 are dead and 700 injured, the older residents remember the German bombardments of World War 2. And fresher in the minds are the ghosts of the Twin Towers (of September 11 2001) and Madrid (March 11 2004).

Malta
Maltese perspective on London explosions

Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi, on behalf of the Government of Malta and its citizens, condemned without reservation the series of coordinated attacks which hit London on Thursday morning. In a letter sent to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Dr Gonzi stated, “This is an abominable attack which undermines the global efforts towards peace and security of all peoples and nations.”

Dr Gonzi added that it is an attack on the good will of nations and against humanity since occurred at a moment when a group of the world’s top leaders are discussing issues such as the reduction of poverty in Africa and a sustainable global environment.

Political parties and other constituted bodies in Malta also issued statements of condemnation against the perpetrators of the attacks.

New York - Madrid – Londra - ?...

Poliţia a īmpānzit oraşul şi-i opreşte pe toţi suspecţii.

New York - Madrid - London - ?...

Yesterday afternoon it was extremely difficult to call London. Operators of "Moldtelecom" advised us to have patience as "today all of Moldova is calling Great Britain".

That being said, around 4:00pm I managed to get in contact with some of our citizens who work illegally in London. Mihai Tudor, originally from Chisinau, told us about the 8 powerful explosions that took place in the another neighborhood from where he works in construction.

"It is unbelievable chaos here. The streets are full of people in a hurry. The police have shut down the city and are stopping all suspects. After the explosions, my boss sent us home. The subway is closed, and therefore us Moldovans are wandering down the street, trying to find a way back to our place. I think now we're lost..." Mihai Tudor told us.

Dodental zal oplopen

London - On Thursday morning four bomb attacks within an hour and a half on the public transportation system of London cost the lives of 37 people. Hundreds of people were wounded. The explosions went off during the morning in two subway trains, one underground railway station and a double decker bus.

The attacks in the British capital took place while the leaders of the G8 met, the seven most important industrial countries plus Russia. Amongst other things, they discussed the reduction of poverty and climate change. The meeting in Gleneagles will continue until Friday. After the attacks, the British Prime Minister tony Blair has temporarily returned to London.
Norway

Rodzina jest z nami w kontakcie, a poszkodowaną osobę otoczyła opieką szkoła współpracująca z nami – zapewnił Marcin Kuryło z firmy JDJ Bachalski organizującej kursy językowe.

In the long run, we're all dead. John Maynard Keynes

That site is ok but it's got a lot of gaps, especially in Europe.

This morning I was trying to focus on how different country papers were taking different angles.  Some joining in that it was Al-Qaeda for sure, some focusing on the victims, others on other things.  Notice the Russian paper called for the G8 leaders to "work together" against terrorism, clearly referencing Chechen activities.

If you notice, Iceland was the only paper to put George Galloway's comments above the fold.

Translation of the report from Norway:

"
Denmark might be next target of terror

At lest 37 persons were killed and more than 700 were wounded when the terrorists attacked several targets in London yesterday morning. An hitherto unknown group which is claiming to be part of al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for the bombs. Now Denmark is on top of the terrorists hate-list.

The organization claiming to bear responsibility for the acts of terror in London, The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe, proclaims in an announcement that the regims of Denmark and Italy will be punished in kind if they don't withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

At the same time the organization makes threats against
«the crusading nations». Norway is to be counted as one of those.

I don't wish to be picky, but there seems to be a mismatch in the Luxembourg excerpt. The German is actually:

Terror Attacks Shake London

Public transport at standstill - TV reports estimate number of injured could exceed 1000

(dpa) - According to police, at least 37 people died in the attacks on the London Underground and one bus in the city center of the British metropolis on Thursday. In all, some 700 underground and bus passengers were injured, and 300 were taken to hospital, at least 45 of them with severe injuries. According to the Luxembourg Embassy, no Luxembourgeois were among the dead or injured.

Please excuse any typos - I have to run.

Thanks all of you for the translations.. and corrections! I really don't speak German, just use machines and guesses to muddle through it.
