Who Are We?

As ET is growing in leaps and bounds (yupi!), I thought it was time for an informal and completely unscientific poll to see who we are. Or where we are from.

A lot of us move around and have origins in different places than where we currently live. So for the poll below, just answer where you currently live. If you're on vacation or about to move somewhere, put the place where you will be living.

I'm not sure if you can edit polls - but Sweden joined the EU in -95...

It's just we Norwegians that refuse to do so. We are too cool.

but they're not in the euro...

Maybe the poll should clssify us by the currency we use for our savings.... (that would be euros in Romania?)

You can open a bank account in Euros but the currency here is still the lei, which is kinda cool because it's also the same word for "lions" as in the animals.

So a loaf of bread costs 14.000 lions ;) Well shoot that's not right because we just got the new currency, so a loaf of bread costs 1,4 lions. The prices on the register all show the new money but everyone talks the old money and it's just a big confusing mess :)

My bad on the Sweden, I honestly did not realize they were full EU now. I guess I was thinking Finland because of the Euro.

I am a Japanese in Tokyo. I have been urging my government to accede to EU. If Europe can put up with UK, why not us?

With Japan and Canada in the Kyoto treaty, maybe we could create the Kyoto Treaty Union of sane rich countries to join forces and force that other rich country to see reason?!

Great. I envy Germany who knows how to, and how not to, act internationally. Working together with UK and France make your policy stable and sane, whereas we are working with USA alone. A friend of mine in the Japanese foreign policy circle once remarked about the 1st Gulf war that Japan's foreign policy would be stable with USA as the anchor. I said, half-jokingly, "Do you really think USA would remain a stable anchor? I'm not sure."

So soj, where do we applicant staters vote? (none / 1)

According to your poll, are we EU or other? The way things are going these days in both Romania and Bulgaria, maybe we should say "other Europe" or in my more recent, darker moments:

"the-almost-made-it-into-the-EU-but-botched-it-at-the-last-minute-Europe."

I'll let Sirocco decide if the Norwegian referenda qualify it for this category or if they deserve a special category along with Iceland. :)

So we have 8 US/Canada votes here...and I'm one of the US votes...from the state that seems to like to elect actors as governors.(and bad actors at that)

Thanks Sirocco and to everyone here. I remember when Boo announced Eurotrib was going to start up and I was so excited I waited up till midnight so I could sign up.

At first this was all a bit overwhelming as there are so many countries represented and the politics and customs to learn about which is also why I don't post extensively. Unless it is a bit more relating to America which I of course feel more comfortable posting about.

I'd love nothing more than to be able to travel to Europe and other countries to meet local people, learn new cultures and as I know I'll never be able to do that being here at Eurotrib is the closest I'll be able to get to achieving that goal....so in other words-I'm dam happy to be here and nice to know I apparently don't sound like an ugly American.
