 In Wales' abstract fotodiary

I love photography, so it is with great glee that I'm taking part in the fotofair 2006.  This diary will hold some abstract photos, but since I can submit up to 2 a day over the weekend, I've also got others on architecture, macro and landscape lined up.

Some were taken over the summer with an Olympus E500 that I borrowed.  I've since treated myself to a Nikon D200 so that will feature also.  Everything is taken in Wales, mostly Cardiff and St Donats, but over the next year I hope to travel wider to get some good shots elsewhere.

The only time I've visited Wales I visited Cardiff for a day.

Copper roof

This is part of the roof of the stunning Millenium Centre in the Bay, when the setting sun hits it it glows, it's one of my favourite pieces of architecture.

I just signed up for eurotrib just so I could leave a comment about your wonderful pictures. You have a such a fine eye for composition along with the skill to make the shot what you want. I'm so glad you decided to particpate.

Thanks so much!  I've just been looking at your diaries, they are incredible. I have been meaning to take myself away to the countryside for a weekend so that I can get some early morning shots, the light is unique at that time of day - your pictures really make the best of that.

It's a lot easier to capture that light when all you have to do is get up every morning and give into the dogs' insistence that we take a long walk in the woods.

Thanks!  I love the way that holding a camera gives me a key to looking at the world in a new way.  I'd miss so much otherwise.

I just joined, too, so I could comment.  I love the way you make ordinary things look like art.  Beautiful.

Congratulations with good shots. I have always missed my chance because I like to take picture of people but they were quite unpredictable or just my friends - sometimes, during conversations, it was not appropriate to take my camera out and click.

I also have plenty of people shots but they only really resonate with the people who were there at the time, and I too feel awkward just randomly snapping away at people.

I often see some brillant moments where there is a great dynamic or interaction going on - people with each other or with the environment - and I wish I was brave enough to take the shot!

Here is my favourite though

I took this over the summer during a residential week with young people with disabilities - I teach photography on the course.  We do a whole range of activities and this one is from our mini panto.  I was a drunken evil Santa Claus who robbed Lady Penelope (pictured).  I took this shot while she was watching what was going on around her.  She has extremely limited speech and mobility, yet here she was a full part of our activity. I thought she was very inspiring. One thing I learnt from her and others who were there, is that you don't always need words to communicate. I think this picture says it all.
