One question: Is your president at the head of the world's Super-power nation, one of the two most heavily armed nuclear-weapons powers and, the world's only nation to have actually used a weapon of atomic fission and the head of the nation which appears also to be currently the most likely to be the first to use a weapon of nuclear fission ?

If the answer to the above is "yes", then I stumped-- go on, tell me, who is your president?

Oh!  Wait, is it the "I'm a uniter, not a divider, I'm the Decider" President ?

  Ronald Reagan ??

  Bill Clinton ???

A small matter of terminology: In English, the two types of nuclear bombs are usually called atomic bombs, which use fission reactions, and hydrogen bombs, which use fusion reactions.

Thank you for that correction.  From now on, I'll use the simpler "atomic bomb" for either A-Bomb or N-Bomb.

I know, I know! Blair! No, Chirac? Or Berlusconi, no. Maybe Merkel?

I give up.

Nice guesses! In the original version of this little post, on my own blog in French, I did say that given my life Chirac could be one of my presidents. But as a hint I did say that it was not him!

I cannot claim Berlusconi though...

Thanks

You're reading Eurotrib too much if you think bad things of these people.

The entire "average guy" competition never made sense to me.  I remember, during the '04 campaign, Chris Matthews praising Bush as "the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with."  Why would I want to have a beer with the president?  Why would I want an "aveerage guy" in office?  I don't want to be more intelligent than my president.  I want my president to be able to run circles around me, intellectually.

Bah.  Fucking Red States and their Budweiser-drinking, deer-hunting, "I-wanna-avrij-Joe-fer-ma-president" nonsense.

And how is fortunate son Bush an "average guy" anyway? He's "of average intelligence", ok, or at least he was before he suffered permanent brain damage from cocaine and alcohol abuse, but beyond that?

Oh, I know.  He does put on quite a performance, though.  I'll give him credit for that.  It's a hallmark of recent Republican presidents that they're all great B-movie-level actors.

Maybe you have heard about GW Bush's first campaign, running for Congressman. His opponent framed him as a spoiled Northeastern intellectual yuppie, and he lost big time. Rumor has it that after the election he swore he would never again be taken as being too smart, and adopted the dumb rancher personna to compensate.

One may take this theory or leave it... Here's an old writeup of his campaign...

Good thing you didn't add "my president sucks at riding bicycles", it would then have been a giveaway.
