Tokyo get-together Friday, February 8

Hi, following up on this diary  few weeks ago about a possible "meet-up" in Tokyo, just wanted to give a shout-out to anyone in Japan, in particular the Kanto area, who wants to join me and Zwackus this Friday evening for dinner and chit-chat for the first, albeit modest, EuroTrib meet-up in Japan, and if I am not mistaken Asia.

Tentatively I've proposed the Pink Cow in Shibuya at 7:00 PM.

Zwackus and I just exchanged a couple of emails, but in case any other members or lurkers here in Japan might be interested, feel free to pipe up if you can join us.

I am sure The Pink Cow did not pick off any of the stars that Michelin recently showered on Tokyo, but it's a very cozy, casual atmosphere, perfect for talking and hanging out without worrying about getting kicked out off your table to make way for the next Friday 2-hour slot.

As you can see on the website, they have an all-you-can eat buffet of Western/fusion style dishes for ¥2,625 (tax included) -- or with the all you can drink option, ¥5,250 for two hours/¥6,300 for three hours.  The website menu lists some of the dishes they put out.

The place is fairly quiet for dinner, but later on, it can get pretty lively at the bar, with a pretty good selection of (mostly Australian and Californian) wine.

Also, Tracy, the owner, is a very politically passionate and engaged Californian Tokyo-lifer who -- I wouldn't be surprised -- might even join us in the conversation if she happens to be around that evening.

Here is a map:

One possibility is meeting up at 7pm near Shibuya Station (JR Yamanote line; lower left side of the map), probably by the famous statue of Hachikō the dog, and walk over together:

Having said all this, nothing is fixed in stone yet, except we're opting towards Western food in the Shibuya/Aoyama/Ebisu (i.e. lower west side) area of Tokyo if possible.  If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to post them, and let's shoot for finalizing something by Friday morning.

i just had a great batch of sushi for the first time in far too long.  but it was really, really difficult asking the itamae to switch out the maguro and toro for more sustainable species... (actually i think he gave me salmon and hamachi instead, but i need to check if even those aren't endangered by now!)

Pink Cow is a pretty good choice.  A friend of mine used to do video for events there.  With that nice map, it shouldn't be any problem finding it.

I might be a bit late, due to transport reasons and all, and my friend will definitely be joining us later - she's routinely not finished with work until 8:00, at least, but on the plus side she lives in Shibuya, so the area is perfect.

Looking forward to it!

One of my friends has said she can join us as well.  She will inject an extra shot of Europe into the mix, being Parisian born and raised, but working here in Tokyo for several years now.

Ditto for me. Not quite enough notice, but have a good one!
