A large sinkhole sinkhole has formed in East Texas over an apparently collapsing salt dome in a turn of the 20th century oil field. This prompted a cartoon in the Houston Chronicle.  The fact that newspaper running the cartoon is the Houston Chronicle is of at least as much interest as the content of the cartoon. Also of interest to ET members is the label on the cartoon.

Consider this an extended commentary on Jerome's "Countdown to $200 oil (5) - Supply side follies" of 5/19/'08.  Locals are referring to it as "sinkhole de Mayo.  Even in Houston people are becoming concerned not to be crushed by the flailing death throes of Big Oil, as a look at the cartoonist's blog will reveal.

If sanity be culturally normative, then by the norms of this culture I claim insanity.

The saltdome is 6 miles across, could be a large lake in the offing here.
