Is everybody having a hangover from last nights celebration, or what?
by Fran (fran at eurotrib dot com) on Thu Jan 1st, 2009 at 12:43:48 PM EST
None for me.  I actually took a nap at about 8PM (an exciting New Year's, I tell ya), woke up at 10PM to turn on Dick Clark.  Sounded like he was slowly recovering from his stroke.  Much better shape than last year.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm okay. Didn't really get too drunk cos drinking on your own isn't really that sort of drinking.

Mind you, the Stone Bitter chocolate Oatmeal Stout (eat your heart out Drew) was pretty damn fine.

If the Arrogant Bastard Ale is any indication, I'll pass.  Didn't think much of it.

A bottle of champagne between 3 adults, and everybody (almost) off to sleep before 11pm. A surprising number of artisanal fireworks are lit up in the streets of the city on that hour...

No hangover here, Fran, but it's a lazy day. Best wishes for 2009 to everyone, and here goes a recent picture of the beautiful, and beautifully preserved, antique columns inside the Pantheon of Rome. Nearly 1900 years old and counting. Will anything we build be as long-lasting?

Thank You.

These past several weeks have been busy, busy, busy.  And it looks like the next 3 months are going to be as bad or worse.

Great.  Now we have New Mexicans returning to the site.  Means we'll probably have to have a meet-up in Santa Fe, or better yet Taos.  New Mexico, where all the French Nobel winners in literature live.  Jeez.  probably think Bill Richardson is cool or something.

welcome home, AT.

Begging the question, what kind of writing projects?

All are still Works in Progress:

One is a low budget screenplay a friend in Los Angles (where else?) wants to produce.

Others - still ongoing - are a sheaf of technical discussions (high-techy talk to marketeer-speak) about our Natural Language Understanding System.

I wrote, but will not send, a response to a DARPA Request For Information.

The last is a rewrite of our 'Request for Funding.'  The old one is woefully out of date both financially and technologically.

Fran's Open Thread

Crazy Horse, your wish is my comand... or something like that. :-)

Y'all see how easy it will be in 2009?

These are the things with which i began the new year.

  •  There are now no more boxes on the living room rug.
  •  While wandering around Bremen on the fifth day of blue skies, (unheard of, but thanks for the welcome), i found the exact piece of wood i needed to provide the base for the printer cupboard.
  •  Boot Liquor radio on SomaFM internet radio is a good soundtrack for today.
  •  i watched all the amazing documentary films which accompany Gandhi, and i'm even more amazed it got made.
  •  i found my screenwriting software, so i can send Melancthon the Hiawatha script, instead of the novel he wants to read.
  •  i watched the crescent moon pass over my desk, which is pretty cool for a Wohnung with a glass roof.
  •  From J's frontpage 10 Yr Euro diary, i discovered that no matter my experience, i can't detail what actually needs to be done to help us heal Anglo disease.
  •  I'm thinking it will be pretty cool in Bremen, the Frisco of Deutschland, so we should probably have a meet-up.
  •  In general, i wish there were more Germans on this site, and if they're lurking, Vorbeischaue Bitte.

Oh by the way, i have never seen so many fireworks in my life, as littered my area last night.  And the sound track as i write this is the band Son Volt, singing, May the Wind Take Your Troubles Away.

Happy New Year!

It's 12:36 PM here in New Mexico, and the hangover is just beginning to wear off... bleah.

You'll find this amusing, I think.

'Bout had a heart attack last week when I was up in ABQ.  Drove by Page One Too and ... it ... was ... closed!!!!  (AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH)

Parked, walked up to the Hallowed Door, and read they'd completed their move.

Happy New Year! This links to the regular YouTube video, but if you can, click on the "watch in HD" link at the lower right of the video-- much better.

(And no, I don't know what they're saying in the song-- specially written for the new year celebration, I've heard-- but who cares! Let this be a happy year!)
