I've finished my book. Yay.

Some revision-ish work to do next, but the words are in.

And... I'm already signed up for another one.

Extra special irony award when I tell everyone what it's about - just before it's published, in April. Heh. :)

Good on you.

Having read your comments and diaries it is possible to make two shrewd guesses at the topic:

  1.  Ahe illustrated guide to the Albert Museum's famous collection of stuffed eels

  2.  A DIY manual on growing cactus in Cornwall.

No one.

I mean, when everyone began tossing up the President/High Representative combination instead of just sticking to a rather specific question, I can't help anyone further. It was plain in sight, no special footnotes, there wasn't even any small print, for crying out loud. Equal font size, I checked. Get with the program people.

Ceebs would've won by guessing Van Rompuy, then lost everything by adding Patten.

Mig would've won on picking Ashton for High Representative, then lost because it wasn't the question, and for picking out a loser like Juncker.

Tough it out people. Go wait for another 5 years, or whatever the term is, for an opportunity like this. See if I care.

Now, what's on the telly?

There are 6 Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court bench now.

4 of those are conservatives who I believe will vote to overturn: Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Alito.
1 is a swing vote: Kennedy.
1 is an Obama nominee: Sotomayor.

If the Supreme Court agrees to hear this case and if they overturn Reinhardt's ruling, I think it effectively signals a theocracy.

by Magnifico on Fri Nov 20th, 2009 at 02:15:51 PM EST
[ Parent ]
I'm reasonably sure this comes down to Kennedy, because I've read a fair bit from people who know Sotomayor, and who say she's very much pro-gay rights.

I'm excited and nervous about this -- the former because I've read many of Kennedy's opinions (he seems to lean strongly the right way here), and the latter because obviously the stakes are very high and I'd hate to be wrong.  Given the grounds on which the Ninth ruled here, SCOTUS probably has little choice but to finally make a decision here.

Condolences!  I have had similar problems. If any here can shed light on how to insure the reliable equivalent of a tab function I, and, I suspect, rootless2 would love to know. For all I know the html could be amongst those shown under "allowed html" as there is no identification of function available for those to whom it is not "intuitively obvious."

Do I take it correctly that when I start off with text that will properly display a table in a WP format and place
 at the beginning and
at the end of said table that the tabs, spaces and carriage returns used to generate the table will be preserved? Or should I start with a spreadsheet?

Do not use tabs but only spaces and carriage returns to align text. In your word processor, use a monospaced/typewriter font such as Courier, Gothic, or indeed Monospaced.

LOL!  I used Hexadecimal Art to pass my Motorola Exercisor programming class. We had to write a working program in assembly language, but had not been shown drivers for monitors or printers.  Most of the other students were old hands and already knew these tricks, but this was my first, (and last) programming course. So I played with the sixteen characters I was given and realized I could write a recognizable "word" thus: F001F00D.  So I wrote a program that was: Set Pointer xxxxxxxx, Load Register A F001, Store A, Increment Pointer, Load Register A F00D, Store A, Increment Pointer. There was also something with the counter. Then we used Dump to examine the register and there it was: a register full of foolfood.

Migeru:

Please, when copying text from elsewhere into a diary or comment, remember to preview and use HTML formatted instead of Auto-format if necessary, as auto-format will replace meaningless line breaks with <br> tags.

Working on the library, rummaging through boxes I haven't opened in a while and came across my copy of Digital Techniques for Computation and Control published in ... 1958.  On the good side it contains an in-depth discussion of the benefits and trade-offs of core versus drum memories.  On the bad side it contains an in-depth discussion of the benefits and trade-offs of core versus drum memories.

"Why do I keep this stuff," he asked.

I suppose because it tells me how to construct a blocking oscillator or a Miller Integrator using a 6C4 tube.  And who knows when THAT will become necessary or useful?

So up on the shelf it goes.
