He seems to wear expensive shirts. I, OTOH, rejoice in tacky shirts in bold designs purchased for a pittance. The fact that no-one will be seen with me in such shirts is, I admit, a problem. But if you don't have principles, what do you have?

You have bad taste and social alienation - a small price too :-)

Well if you want several years on a prison Island to develop the alienation to go with that shirt...

I used to have a coworker who dressed like that. A brilliant man who looked like a slob most of the time. I don't think it was a matter of principles, he just didn't give a damn what anyone thought about him. One morning, in a crowded elevator on the way up to our office, he told me I, looked the antithesis of elegance.  I could only smile and thank him for the compliment.

Judging by the tattoo he didnt walk fast.

(He looks very much like a friend of mine from 15 years ago, although my friend then must look older now)

LEP, I think you have arranged two very interesting contributors to the next generation - judging by your introductory portrait. Let's hope they make a better job of it than us ;-)

The difference between theists and atheists is that the atheists don't set the theists on fire for refusing to agree with them.

The man with me , a friend of mine for over thirty years is a world famous orchid grower.
Below our image are some of his flowers.
Please click on the image, go to original, & peruse his Zuma Canyon  beauties.
I`ll dedicate this set to all the lovers of flowers .

Orchids are amazing. It wasn't till I started to do plant drawing (as an exercise that turned very useful) that I realized how elegantly flowers grow. It's really humans who don't do elegance well. Everything else has emerged elegantly, but we somehow screwed it up, or were screwed by unintelligent design - as some would have it.

Even by inventing the word elegance we screwed it up. If there is any force it all that guides the universe, then I'd choose a very similar word - emergence. Here we are at the tail end of a Very Big Bang, living on flying debris and we only see it in a super-super slo-mo, like a movie explosion. Everything emerged from that massive release of energy, and life emerged in a very narrow set of circumstances where the energy was not too hot and toxic, but still vibrating. Just one slice of the cosmic salami is habitable. But an interesting slice ;-)

Sven,
Sorry about the delay to such an eloquent comment.
I was taking care of a family member involved in a terrible auto crash.
The driver of the other vehicle must hail from the idiot side of the cosmic salami slice.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Eloquence has little value in such circumstances. I hope that the family member can be mended, and I am sure your gentle positiveness will play a part in recovery.
