Germans more corrupt than French, but not corrupt enough!

In an unexpected turn, the FT has a headline on its website which basically praises lawlessness as long as it benefits the economy...

Based on a Deutsche Bank study, the article notes that countries with very small black economies (France, Austria, the Netherlands) and countries with very large ones (like Greece) suffered less from the recession than those (which apparently include Germany) with a medium-sized undeclared sector.

While the study and the article conclude that virtue is the better route out of Germany's current situation, it is still quite unexpected to see such praise of informal economies... unless you consider that the business press is desperate for arguments that make it possible to say the economy is doing better - and including the black economy is an easy way to boost statistics, surely...

"black economy" seems confused with "black economy." FT editorial needs to work up another ma nigga moniker* for um tax deferred income growth, if it really hopes to build, you know, a powerful grassroots movement for this um engine of community-based connectivity.

Otherwise some people might get the wrong idea about FT.

More anti-tax, small-government concern trolling from the usual serious people?

The black economy as social safety net?

The black economy as automatic fiscal stabilizer?
