An investigation in Bari broke today after a witness declared she had been paid to attend two evenings at Berlusconi's Rome residence recently. Patrizia D'Addario declares that she has proof of both encounters. She alleges that the first time she arrived at Palazzo Grazioli she found another twenty women in waiting and was not chosen that time to participate. The second party coincided with Barack Obama's election, a limper at the time for Mr. Berlusconi's fortunes.
On the second occasion she alleges having passed the entire night in Mr. Berlusconi's services and was paid 2000 by the man who organized the encounter. Ms. D'Addario had been hired by a company allegedly involved in attempts at corruption over hospital and building contracts. According to D'Addario, Berlusconi greeted her by associating her with a construction project that her good graces represented.
The investigation stemmed from a previous investigation into a criminal association with the scope of corruption involving a group of hospitals and constructors in Southern Italy. The present hypothesis is prostitution racketeering. Indiscretions have it that this group is not the only one involved in this activity.
Ms. D'Addario was recently presented as a local political candidate supporting Mr. Berlusconi's party. Mr. Berlusconi's spokesmen have attacked ex-Council President D'Alema, accusing him of having known about the investigation when he declared that the Democratic Party should be prepared for possible major shake-ups (scosse). D'Alema replied that the accusations were "shameless speculation." He advised Berlusconi to come forth on the case and answer questions rather than behave as he has with the Noemi affair. Mr. Ghedini, popularly know as the avvocaticchio (two-bit lawyer) after his successful suit for defamation against the then director of the Corriere della Sera Ferruccio de Bortoli, declared that his client was above blackmail, once again repeating the false allegations that the photographer Zappadu had sought to blackmail Berlusconi. Zappadu declared to authorities that, on the contrary, Berlusconi's entourage had sought to entrap him. Mr. Ghedini, considered the real Minister of Justice, presently enjoys parliamentary immunity, putting him beyond eventual suits by anyone he defaims. Thanks to his law, known as interposed person as the "Lodo Alfano" (in honour of the formal Minister of "Justice" Angelino Alfano), Mr. Berlusconi is immune from investigation and prosecution so long as he remains in office. Nevertheless, the present charges do not put him in a favourable light. In the past few days Berlusconi has sought to shove through parliament a law on wiretaps that will have devastating effects on the prosecution of crime as well as on freedom of the press. As I remarked then- and I was not a voice by any means alone- it is no small wonder. Berlusconi is anthropologically incapable of conceptualizing that something exists beyond his base interests- or the tip of his dick. Seeing as the Procura of Bari resorted in part to wiretaps in their investigation, one needn't make much of a mental effort as to how many more investigations throughout Italy must be blocked, so that Mr. Berlusconi- and his two oldest children- may continue to enjoy their vigorous and highly remunerative lifestyles. Updates and Corrections Ms. D’Arradio declared she passed the night with Berlusconi on the night of Barack Obama’s election. As for proof of her charges an employee of the Bari procura declared that she is very adept at making video and audio registrations. As far as strategic media coverage of the affair in Italy, Augusto Minzolini has qualified for a ((Taibbi Horsesperm Pie)) [macro proposed]. According to a video service on line today (How to Hide the News), Minzolini’s banner state coverage came after 5 minutes on prime time news. It began by twice repeating Berlusconi’s attack against the press for publicizing trash without mentioning D’Addario’s charges nor Bari’s investigation into possible prostitution racketeering. Instead the TG1 news attacked D’Alema for having warned that the nation may soon be “shaken-up.” The service then attacked a leading center left candidate, Bersani for his anodyne comments. The service concluded with the outraged declarations of two Berlusconi spokespersons against both D’Alema and Bersani. Throughout the service the audience is left in the dark as to what has effectively happened. Minzolini, who was unilaterally appointed to head national state banner news without consulting the opposition, is admired as a shark for his strong character. Unfortunately he has never ventured out of Berlusconi’s cistern. His articles in /la Stampa/ are outstanding for imaginative grovelling.
The only news program that effectively broadcasted the charges was the RAI third channel, the traditional wildlife oasis for endangered leftists. |
