Has anybody confirmed that these British embassy staffers who've been arrested were not British nationals, and thus don't enjoy diplomatic immunity?

Oh, and a coup in Honduras or something.

This is gonna be a lovely day.

I see shoots of green,
Red Velvets, too,
Pasdaran threats,
Honduran coups,
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world!

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world!

According to Al Jazeera, the arrests have taken place over a couple of weeks.

Al Jazeera's Jonah Hull in London, quoting British embassy officials in Tehran, said the arrests had taken place over the course of the last two weeks.

"This is a sort of running total - if you like - of a number of arrests and detentions of British embassy employees believed to be local Iranians rather than British citizens," he said.

Which is even more upsetting, in a way. I imagine/hope it's been kept quiet up to now because diplomatic measures were being tried first. But it's horrible to think of people being picked off one by one. If any remaining local staff and their families want a plane ticket and a visa (if that's enough), I really hope we're seeing to that.

Greetings, all!  I am back from 5 days in Lampeter and a weekend in Leicester.  Much catching up and unpacking to do.

We work outside the home.

Something my father forgets when he's wondering out loud why people don't have domestic standards any more.

(Of course, if I spent all the time I spend on here cleaning....)

Can you believe not a single photo?  There was absolutely no downtime to go for a stroll with the camera.  And the light was wonderful for it too. Gutting.

Yes, it was really good actually - apart from one delegate getting bitten by bedbugs - all over. Ouch.

But the campus was perfect for the event - about 250 people, conference sessions and workshops and evening entertainment etc.  Plus boot camp on the hockey pitch at 6.30pm each day!

It's too bad.  They had a pretty good shot to tie it on a corner kick, but sent the header a little high over the crossbar.

but apart from that bit of action, the last 20mn I saw of the game were totally one sided.

I'm in Northern Germany now, after having spent the w-e in Italy on a Oil Drum/ASPO conference/meetup. Nice change of scenery from more frustration at work.

Then again, Brazil had a goal disallowed for the ball not passing the line, when replays clearly showed that Howard hit it at the top post from inside.

I regret not having seen the first half (but saw the two wonderful goals on YouTube in replay), with the second half consisting of innumerable attacks by Brazil -- still, even in loss, I was left with the impression of a well-organised Team USA.

But Brazil knew better how to get across its defense than Spain. Even if Robinho was totally worthless, and there were too many Bundesliga-style standard attempts.
