This week's blog will be on  "Having Fun".

We will also have the usual "Ask the Expert" about anything you like, composition, technical things and so on.

and of course "Photos As Usual", whatever you want to post.

Please try to keep to 600 pixels width and 100kb to 150kb max in file size and take a look at Wednesday Photography Blog No.2 for the technical bits on how to post.

Someone's new technology automatically limits width of photos shown to 600pixels. But it allows you to click and hold on the photos to see the larger version if the file is greater than 600 pixels in width.

Please do not click on post a comment but reply under one of the headers instead.

Have fun, and throw anything in, we want to see your photos!

Who is calling this dance.

I froze the action - this was actually the practice bit so people could learn the moves. But it involves lots of skipping around, dancing, weaving in and out of each other, spinning... English country dancing I think.  Which I was terrible at when I was at school.

I imagine it would be a lot easier, if someone was calling the dance, as in a square dance, so participants would know the moves. That`s why I framed my first question, in that way.
It sure looks complicated in it`s choreography.
Can you imagine an orchestra without a conductor.

The bloke with the round drum thing was calling the dance and choreographed the practice session.  They are repetitive sequences so everyone got into full swing after a minute or so.  Beats having a shit DJ and music so loud that nobody can have a conversation.

This is technically crap, but the triangle of the guy at the table, the girl and the bubbles makes it somehow work. At first I was going to crop the grey beams out, until I saw the other bubbles high up.

jjellin,
Thank you very much.
I have to say though, that anybody can do this.
I`m especially fond of your descriptive "engaging".
That`s quite the compliment.
As you may have noticed, my photos are almost always a "one on one"
viewer`s take, me being the viewer.
That I can share them is fantastic.
That you think them engaging , is even more so.
Also, when I say anybody can do this, these are all taken with a little "point & shoot".
Throughout the age of photography, it`s never been about the "eye" of the camera, but of the eye of the photographer.
I always use Ansel Adams as an example of this.
Many people strive for the latest expensive large bodied SLR cameras, yet Ansel Adams had a plywood box one.
He packed his darkroom on a mule & went out to shoot his amazing photos for months at a time in the wilds.
I`m also not, in any way, ever comparing myself to him.

The difference between theists and atheists is that the atheists don't set the theists on fire for refusing to agree with them.

"Ask the Expert"

Ad astra per aspera
by In Wales (inwales aaat eurotrib.com) on Thu Jul 2nd, 2009 at 04:07:16 PM EST
The views expressed in this rant are those of the misanthropic mess of the narrator alone and do not at all represent those of the commenter; but he does like a nice rant.  Particularly when he just spent time happily taking photos for the first time in a few years.  And what does he read a few days later on the plane?  From Thomas Bernhard's Extinction  (Ausloeschung. Ein Zerfall). In French cause that's what I got it in, laziness and opportunity in parts. And no, I'm not translating it since double translations are way too iffy.  PS, no paragraph breaks because apparently Bernhard doesn't believe in them. At all, in a five hundred page book.

MarekNYC:
en vérité, a force de photographier, elle prend a la longue le monde déformé et pervers pour le seul véritabletruly, by keeping on taking photos, (they) end up thinking the distorted and perverse world is the only true one

Well, that's what he says. What if photographers were aware that they are producing art, not nature?

Bernhard's belief in undistorted nature is touching. Our eyes and brains interpret and reformulate all the time. A camera is a device that reminds us that that is what we are doing.

MarekNYC:
In their photographs, people are ridiculous dolls, so unbalanced as to be unrecognizable, yes, who look at the ignoble lens in fright, in an idiotic and repulsive way.

That, on the other hand, is most true, when I am the subject of a photo!

I'm not sure it's fair to tag Berhnard with the views of his narrator.  What makes this extra crazy is that it comes right on the heels of the narrator looking at the only three photos he owns - one of his two sisters, one of his parents, and one of his brother just after learning of the death of the latter three, all of whom he detests, and musing on how the photos truly capture the essence of their subjects.  PS the 'elle' in the first quote is 'humanity' not 'they'.

True I didn't translate "elle" precisely, but still and all.

The writer seems a sad person & a little on the "nutcase" side.
He seems to forget that the written word is also a way to create images, memories, fantasies, & dramas. The tortured diatribe of the writer, actually paints quite a nice image of what he terms the "malheure" of the 20th century, & it`s self portrait.
