Friday evening September 10, 2010 Warmup.[UPDATED]

by LEP Tue Sep 7th, 2010 at 12:23:36 PM EST

I cant update the first diary regarding Friday evening, which afew kindly rescusitated from "archive hell" so I'm writing a new one.

I reserved the back room at "Chez Pradel, 168 rue Ordener in the 18th arondissement of Paris. Many of you are familiar with "Chez Pradel"; we've been there twice before. It has different owners than two years ago but I believe the food is good and it is moderately priced. A plate and entree or plate and desert will be less than 20 euros.

A Flashback to Sept. 2007:

I reserved for anytime after 7:30 and I'm sure managemeent will be pleased if we come early for a drink or two.

Here's the latest count of Friday's attendees.

LEP, afew, dvx, GK, Bernard, Helen, Sven, Ted Welch, Xavier in Paris and someone with friend. Jerome is a distant possibility if he arrives early from Belguim. That makes 11. (Cyrille and co. are not likely.)

If anyone else would like to attend there's plenty of room.

Update [2010-9-9 5:52:54 by LEP]: For those who wish to tour Montmartre, shall we meet between 4 and 4:30 at the Mairie du 18me (metro Jules Joffrin- line 12), take the minibus up to the top of Montmartre, and walk down stopping at one or two watering holes on the way to Chez Pradel?

Sounds good, LEP.

I think afew is interested in doing some touring. If it doesn't involve much walking I could do it. I'm kind of slow on my feet these days.

Well, I'm available if people want to do some tourism or walking around.

Also to guide people towards Chez Pradel.

Well, I'll be around but I imagine I'll only get free in the middle of the afternoon.

Any time from around 3pm is fine with me (assuming the Metro is not on strike).

The metro is no longer on strike (it was only today).
I'll be arriving from the office (hopefully not too late).

Chez Pradel on Google maps.

Closest métro stations:

  • Guy Môquet on line 13 (warning: take "direction St Denis" not Asnière)
  • Jules Joffrin on line 12

The weather forecast is pretty decent for Friday (Saturday and Sunday too). Sun, some cloud, no rain - Paris skies.

Those who haven't done this before or would happily repeat the experience could join in a stroll round Montmartre (with no cultural references to wear out brains, and with appropriate stops at watering-holes to raise morale).

This is because Chez Pradel is on that side of Paris.

But if others have a yen to stroll around some other part of the city, we can get the Métro as per Bernard's helpful post. Don't hesitate to make suggestions here asap.

PS to LEP: sorry this suggestion isn't really made for you. If you've an idea of a shorter stroll you feel you could do, fire away.

What we could do is meet at the Mairie du 18me (metro Jules Joffrin); take the minibus up to the top of Montmartre (Sacre Coeur) and walk down slowly; perhaps a two hour+ walk to Chez Pradel. (the + depending on how many stops we make). I don't get tired walking downhill ;)

I hope to persuade LEP to join the Paris Ambulatorily-Challenged Mens club, AKA the Pacmen.

Reasonably accurate weather forecast for the next three days in Paris from Meteo France. It's in French, so:
Vendredi: Friday
Samedi: Saturday
Dimanche: Sunday

I would like to sign up myself and one more person for this. Also, if there is some event during the day. We'll get in around 10h. Who should I email my phone number to?

Excellent; I was hoping you would join us. It looks like a tour is being organized. See the two posts above yours.

You can send me an email with your phone #or send me an sms-I just put my phone # in the body of the diary.

It's now looking more likely that we'll do Saturday and give Friday a miss.

I hope it won't be too inconvenient -it's a very busy weekend for us, with Elwan's Baci (Laotian ceremony) to prepare.

No problem. I'll add you to the list. If you want to join us on the tour of Montmartre we're meeting at the Mairie du 18me between 4 and 4:30.

Alas, I'll be working still. I'm supposed to finish work at 6PM. I'm not even sure of geting to the restaurant at half past seven: I'm working in the south of Paris.

But I'd like to meet you after all that time reading the tribune. ;-)

I'm sure we won't start eating until 20h. See you there.
