IT World: Freed journalist tricked captors into Twitter access

A Japanese journalist freed over the weekend by captors in Afghanistan managed to send two Twitter messages before his release while teaching a captor how to access the Internet on a new cell phone, he said Tuesday...

"I called the customer care number and activated the phone," he said. Soon after he had the captor's phone configured for Internet access.

"Once I told them I was able to access, they said 'how do you use it?', 'can we see Al Jazeera?'." Tsuneoka said he explained they just needed to type "Al Jazeera" into Google search to access the Qatar-based TV news network's website.

"But if you are going to do anything, you should use Twitter," he said he told them. "They asked what that was. And I told them that if you write something on it, then you can reach many Japanese journalists. So they said, 'try it'."

"I don't think they realize they were tricked," he said.

Looks like this OT is in suspended animation. I have been elsewhere, both on ET and in RL. Looks like we have another damp cloudy day courtesy of Hermine. At least no tornadoes and we needed the rain. It is just spitting a bit outside now. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear. Oh, well, back to RL.

I've   never thought of a Wednesday being a  non-descript Thursday.

That is where I got the idea it was Thursday -- until I checked the date on the paper!

There's a certain logic to it. The (false) description of Wednesday as Thursday is negated.

So it was NOT a Nondescript Thursday, it was a Mis-described Wednesday! But I am little better. The wife had a Thursday deadline to submit paintings for a contest and I spent an hour wondering why she was not in a panic to get them submitted. Then I checked the paper and saw it was Wednesday but still spent another hour wondering where I had gotten the idea it was Thursday. Oh well, cheap entertainment via self comedy.

Here on planet Northern California it's Wednesday, cool, breezy, and beautiful. At 6:30 P.M. PST the Giants will try to sweep the DBacks before they head to San Diego. I'm avoiding all the politics ... I've had enough of Obama's BS for one lifetime.
