This is why we can't have nice things

So the Central Statistics Office published its yearbook today.

The Irish Times lead is

A snapshot of life in Ireland as austerity measures to tackle the economic crisis took hold was revealed today.

The body of the article? Poverty, deprivation and worsening circumstances for almost everyone.

Austerity measures aren't working, can't work and the media don't even question them: the headline implicitly assumes their inevitability.

Now these people will have to go out and get a job that doesn't exist because we're in a global recession using the skills they don't have since the education and training budget was gutted.
