This video contains material from INA (the French National Audiovisual Institute) who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

The country being France.

Can be seen freely on the INA site.

Beats me.

it's merely some drunken Gallic charm.

By that time (April 1986), even Jane Birkin had tired of his antics. Gainsbourg was an very influential musician though, drunk provocateur that he was.

To someone less familiar with his earlier work, the 2010 film gave me a better understanding, even if it was just a dramatization. He sure was a real talent.

Such a shame when a outstanding talent becomes just too alcoholic and more an object for pity than regard.

Well, that was exactly the pitch he was playing. He enjoyed it.

You've fully mourned Whitney by now, but there is one more thing about her that you have to know. Perhaps all you need to know.

These are her isolated voice tracks from 'How Will I know' from 1985.

Brilliant, and you can really see her voice is the genetically advanced step from her musical family. following up your parental media influence thread, i'll bet she was sung to from the first minute by Cissy.

with Aretha as Godmother, Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick as cousins. Cissy sang backup for Elvis, ferchrissakes.

I guess some tape op dropped off a submix to tape while they were cleaning up tracks in between sessions. I'm glad he did.

In those days the desks were so wide you needed chairs with castors. Something like a Harrison Series 10 automated analogue had more knobs than Parliament. An engineer could send anything anywhere and the creatives wouldn't notice, especially as the tapes were usually behind soundproof glass doors to protect them from baccy smoke or someone choking up on their own vomit.

All true, but the point was the influences on her voice. It's not like she was dropped from Gospel Heaven, though that also played a role. But her mom sang for Elvis, you know!

Here's Cissy

I've got to say Scotland are really back in the game (of rugby) even if they lost by two converted tries.

Can you hear the singing even with the roof on the Millennium Stadium?

Sometimes you can!  Not sure if the wind is in the right direction just now.  I had to trawl through all the pre-game pedestrians to get to a photoshoot, it is a good vibe out there.

"GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Sunday morning he would try to overturn any Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage if he became president."

Y'know, I think any candidate who makes a public statement which reveals they couldn't pass a 10th-grade civics exam should have to withdraw from running.
