I shall be bringing a large bottle of gin for WoB, as per discussion in OT a couple of weeks back. I believe that she needs to demolish quite a bit of it before she returns to Munich.

So, either she's going to be quite wasted all weekend or would appreciate a bit of help ;-)) at some point.

I shall be accompanied by a small selection of decent beer for the more sophisticated palates

I plan to attend.

As far as Friday is concerned, there's a little restaurant near me in Montmartre that serves a pretty good cous-cous (11 euros) and they have a back room which I guess holds about 20. If there's any interest I can enquire.

From the last diary, I understand that many of us (WoB, afew,...) will be arriving in town on Friday.
I'm in for dinner in Montmartre Friday night, especially if it's chez Pradel :)

I don't think Chez Pradel serves dinner at night anymore-noise problemms with the building. But the café I'm proposing is just 100 meters down the street.

I'll look tomorrow to see how many seats there are in the back room.

I eat a cous cous there once in a while.

Excellent. Le Cantelou is just a 1.8 mile walk from the apartment. Or we can grab the metro from Ecole Militaire to Balard and walk across the river from there, if the Universe is so unkind as to rain on our parade.

The closest metro stations from "Le Cantalou" are:
  • Line 10: Javel - André Citroën‎ (about 900m across the Seine river)
  • Line 9: Ranelagh; (about 850m)
  • Line 2: Passy (about 1km)
  • RER C: Javel (if you come from St Michel, Austerlitz, Invalides, Musée d'Orsay and other left bank places)

Check Google Maps for itinerary.

You can also ride the bus "72 Parc de Saint-Cloud" (PDF plan) from Chatelet, Le Louvre (rue de Rivoli) or La Concorde and step out at "Radio France - Pont de Grenelle". Note that, unlike the metro, buses are all wheelchair accessible.

I looked at the small café near my studio in the 18th arrondissement of Paris which serves a nice cous-cous, with three different meats, for 12 euros. There's a small back room with four tables, each seating four persons. A very nice size for a Friday  mini meetup.

The following have expressed an interest:

lep, Mr. and Mrs. Bath, Helen and Bernard.

Any others interested?

Plates other than cous-cous are also available.

If you'd like to join in please comment.

If I turned up with a sleeping bag on Friday night, would there be a couple of square metres of floor space for me to crash on?

(I will insist on contributing to the rent, and have been known to buy drinks.)

... mine will be a couscous with everything, and I will be heading home on Saturday evening.

Didn't want to make firm plans, but today it seems feasible. Unaccompanied.

Well, if you only have a few sleeping on the couch, there's surely room for one more (rim shot!)

Never mind, I'll just sleep under the table in the restaurant. Projected arrival time around 21h15 Friday.

afew is on a fewton which you're welcome to share if that appears possible. Or otherwise organize a sleeping-place.

Remembering last meetup, I just checked the latest for SNCF strikes. I found this.

I don't think my train goes anywhere near Lyon, and in any case it looks as though trains may be delayed but not cancelled.

Ha. I knew about the strike, but I was too bloody blasé to look up at the notice board when I arrived at the station... waited five minutes on the usual platform, then realised my train had been cancelled. Caught the bus instead. An extra half hour, I started work at 9.30.

I've re-checked my train for tonight : it's not cancelled, but the previous one is. It'll be standing room only.

We're expecting you to arrive at L'Ordener about 10:30. That's if you don't take a taxi which I presume you're not.

taking into account my train's arrival at the Gare de Lyon at 20.36, and 33 minutes to the restaurant, according to the RATP's trip calculator (lines 13 and 14). Trust me, I'm brisk.

Our flight was overbooked by a whopping 20%. As it's the start of a long holiday weekend, everything else was fully booked and I would only have been able to reach Paris Saturday night or even Sunday. Some other time...
