What - we have to stay in line to comment?

Well, since most commenters are out of  line anyway, it wouldn't do much good, I guess.

Otherwise, you have to hold your peas.

on Sunday. Cukes won't go in for a couple of weeks yet.

Just pulled up our Autumn broccoli, too. Very unusual that we've been eating broccoli all Winter. Brussel Sprouts, too, but that's not unusual, though they started to move toward seed stage about a month ago. Still eating Swiss Chard from last year - fresh, that is. Haven't needed the frozen Chard, and at this point it seems unneeded. Compost pile, I guess.

We've planted peas too, in a big pot on the balcony. It's not like having a garden, but we can still get our hands dirty.

Got my snow peas in the ground just in time for 30C temperatures! Will try again in the fall and then in March next year. At least I now have the beds prepared. Tomatoes going in the ground today and tomorrow, then all of my pepper plants. Then I will be busy putting up the supports for my 50% aluminet shade cloth. Right now it is a big, expensive box just sitting there.

Lucky you, to have snow peas! I'm not much a fan of regular style peas, but I absolutely adore snow peas (probably due to once a week Chinese dining out somewhere in the Valley, starting at an early age). Never heard of growing them in these parts though. I imagine they need much hotter weather to thrive. Well, good luck ... I'm sure envious.

I have been growing them for years and Hamburg hasn't exactly tropical climate.

Oh really? Well that's interesting. Maybe I'll give them a try if I can find seeds. First, I need to find their Finnish name ... something "herne" probably, "lumiherneita" maybe? No, probably isn't that simple.

Well, thanks for the info/encouragement.

There's me. I am a contraripodian, from New Zealand, but I've mostly been living in France for the past 25 years.

What can I do for you, mate?

Well, the discussion was all about springtime gardens and stuff like that, and I was thinking about some other climatological viewpoints. Living in France doesn't really help...

The Süddeutsche, in an article about concentration camp survivor Martin Löwenberg, mentions what must be one of the most spectacular "typos" ever.

That's "motor-vehicle-prisoner" (car thief?) instead of "concentration-camp-prisoner": "KZ-Häftling"?

Yes, though I doubt it means car thief (a Google search only turns up references to this case).

No, it's about the word or abbreviation Kfz. The typo is stupid enough in any case, but to make it worse: Kfz was introduced by the Nazis to replace the un-German "auto(mobile)". There were many of these language purification words, and Kfz is one that survived (not only written, but spoken too: ka-eff-tset) and is used without a thought for that background. You could sort it in the LTI category.

Holland is being shredded on his Energy Policy, which unfortunately sucks. He cannot come out with a clear victory now.

I don't think anyone's mind will be changed thanks to an energy policy debate. The voters who care about it (a minority, unfortunately) already know who they'll be voting for.

But I worry that the campaign for parliament is going to be just as ugly, if not worse.

Well, the right will be demoralised and backed into a corner. The ugliness will be all their own.

Unless Sarko pulls off a narrow upset. Then I would predict a narrow majority for the left in parlament, thanks to the FN.

His proposition is actually : reduce the share of nuclear to 50% by 2025. Not as good, but considerably easier.
