Drunken Dartmouth ferry 'pirate' woman jailed | This is South Devon

A DRUNKEN woman stole a passenger ferry on the River Dart and shouted 'I'm Jack Sparrow' and 'I'm a pirate' as she drifted away from police on the shore, a court has been told.

Alison Whelan (pictured below), 51, had been on a two-day bender drinking Lambrini and eating hallucinogenic plants when she sought late-night shelter with a companion on the Dart Princess Passenger Ferry. When police arrived to speak to her she unmoored the 45ft vessel from the Kingswear pontoon and set off up the river

A derivative of the nightshade plant, belladonna, was prescribed for me when I was having severe intestinal distress. The generic name was belladonna barbituate. Given that I was never fond of reds and knew the reputation for the nightshade plant I needed reassurance from the doctor that it was safe. It proved highly effective at calming the gut and also makes a superior soporific, which I still use. Not all doctors are comfortable with prescribing belladonna barbituate, so I am currently down to my last 30 or so tablets, but I only use it occasionally, and then a quarter tablet at a time, when my mind is too busy to allow me to go to sleep. Works great, especially in those quantities and in conjunction with melatonin.

Every day is Pirate Day for me
I see plunder far as I can see
Sail the S.S. Bain, upon the bounding main, there's never been a bounder quite like me.
I will buy your business for a song
Load it up with debt, move it along
Sell it long or short, then to Bankruptcy Court, we only stripped it down to pay our fee.
We create a number of good jobs
For our friends, but not for working slobs
The ordinary guy, should just move to Shanghai, cause that's where all the jobs are going to be.
Outsource is a word I just adore
And I love to do it even more
No reason you should bitch, cause God has blessed the Rich, it's only cosmic justice, don't you see ?
If you're sucking on the public tit
Don't expect to get your help from Mitt
If you don't make a mil, you're obviously Road-Kill, we have no room for mediocrity.
You should vote for me November 6
I know all these job-creating tricks
Just trust me for the plan, cause I'm your Romney-Man, the essence of the Modern GOP

Our cautious way we feel
No sound at all
We never speak a word
A fly's foot-fall

Pirates:
So stealthily the pirate creeps
While all the household soundly sleeps

Come friends, who plough the sea
Truce to navigation
Take another station
Let's vary piracy
With a little burglary

Samuel:
Here's your crowbar
And your centre bit
Your life preserver
You may want to hit

Your silent matches
Your dark lantern seize
Take your file
And your skeletonic keys

Police:

So what. Movement conservatives will claim a mandate anyway. The claimed a mandate after 2004, after the not-win in 2000, after the big win in 2010, after the big losses in 2008 and 2006.

The best thing democrats in congress did in many years was to ignore all this mandate nonsense from the media and oppose social security reform in 2004. Worked quite well.

Obama had in many ways a mandate to introduce exactly the kind of health insurance reform he did in 2010. Didn't really help him either.

But it helps if your 'mandate' is acceptable to the money people. That explains the differential utility of 'mandates' between Republicans and Democrats. Fox News host wants 'South Park' investigated for blasphemy - The Clicker

In the wake of news reports about the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims," a Fox News host has decided that a bigger and more professionally made production, "South Park," should come under fire.

Comedy Central

Cartman of "South Park" has no respect for any religion. Unless it's food.

Todd Starnes, host of "FOX News & Commentary" and author of "Dispatches from Bitter America," spoke on a panel about "Religious Hostility in America" at the Values Voter Summit in Washington this past weekend, and Cartman and friends were on his mind.

"We have seen the administration come out and say, 'We condemn anyone who denigrates religious faith.' And they come out in regards to this anti-Muslim film," Starnes said. "Well, that's well and good, but my question is: When has the administration condemned the anti-Christian films that are coming out of Hollywood? Where are the federal investigations into shows like 'South Park,' which has denigrated all faiths? Where is the outrage when people of the Christian faith are subjected to this humiliation that is coming out of Hollywood?"

Bloomberg: Romney Led Mormons From Car Crash Tragedy in France (August 23, 2012)
The accident left Romney unconscious, with a gash to his head and a broken arm, the diary notes.
NY Times: Romney in Crisis: Two Dark Spots in Fortunate Life (August 24, 2012)
Thirty years earlier, in the spring of 1968, Mr. Romney, then a Mormon missionary in France, had a scare of a different sort. He was at the wheel of a tiny Citroën, cruising along a country road, when a Mercedes rounded a curve and crashed into his car, head on. One of his passengers -- the wife of the French mission president -- was killed. Mr. Romney, by all accounts not at fault, was knocked unconscious and mistakenly pronounced dead at the scene.

...

But if he was deeply troubled by his role in the death of Sister Anderson, Mr. Romney kept his emotions in check. "I'm sure he was saddened," said Mr. Wood, who now teaches French at a high school for gifted children in Louisiana, "but he had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and he threw himself into his work, and maybe dealt with his sorrow in that way, staying focused and staying busy."

...

Mr. Romney does not share that kind of intimate reflection with voters or the news media. Ronald B. Scott, a Romney biographer and distant relation, said Mr. Romney's impulse to stay busy after the crash, without dwelling on his inner feelings, was typical.

I was loaned a psychedelic Deux Chevaux without a working starter when I  arrived in Los Angeles in August 1967. I was staying in Westwood at an apartment recently vacated by a summer student who had paid the rent for a few more weeks. There were hills. So long as I parked where I could get the car out into the street on a hill I could pop the clutch to start it. Sargent Pepper was playing non stop on the stereo and there was abundant pot. A nice landing from a six week venture into the Sierra Madre del Ouest around Jalisco, prior to orientation for the fall semester at the private high school where I had been hired.

During the aforementioned trip down to Jalisco I was reverse on the Microbus. We then spent two days in Guadalajara while the local VW agency repaired the transmission.

The car I left in Tuscon was a 1951 Cadillac Coupe de Ville that I had purchased for $10 dollars. I had a 2x4 of the appropriate length instead of the springs that normally would hold up the hood and carried a 5 gallon can of water that I poured into the radiator before driving to a service station to refill the can as the radiator had a hairline crack that allowed the water to seep out while the car was stopped but was not a problem while running.

Ah sweet bird of youth.

Commentary: Earth's attic is on fire

To me, seeing the record Arctic sea ice loss of 2012 is like discovering a growing fire burning in Earth's attic. It is an emergency that requires immediate urgent attention. If you remove an area of sea ice 43% the size of the Contiguous U.S. from the ocean, it is guaranteed to have a significant impact on weather and climate. The extra heat and moisture added to the atmosphere as a result of all that open water over the pole may already be altering jet stream patterns in fall and winter, bringing an increase in extreme weather events. This year's record sea ice loss also contributed to an unprecedented melting event in Greenland. Continued sea ice loss will further increase melting from Greenland, contributing to sea level rise and storm surge damages. Global warming doubters tell us to pay attention to Earth's basement--the Antarctic--pointing out (incorrectly) that there is no fire burning there. But shouldn't we be paying attention to the steadily growing fire in our attic? The house all of humanity lives on is on fire. The fire is certain to spread, since we've ignored it for too long. It is capable of becoming a raging fire that will burn down our house, crippling civilization, unless we take swift and urgent action to combat it.

Unfortunately, short of a nuclear winter I don't see there's any immediate action that will produce an immediate effect.

The fact is that what we're experiencing right now is a top-down disaster. -Paul Krugman

No political will to "combat" Global Warming.  Pols think they can get away with ignoring it and, I hate to say, so far they are right.

amazing how long it's taking the public to connect the dots on this one.

"yup, i vote repuglican... that cornfield out my window that's withered and burnt is god's punishment for not having raised more $ for the RNC to keep the elite DFH gay commies from taking my machine pistol collection. the barble says so."

"what about the hairy underpants?"

"you get used to them. wanna see my ingots buried in the bunker? right next to the statue of reagan and the ammo."

"what's it like on planet kolub, Lennie?"

"it's like heaven, all rich old passive aggressive white people with interMITTent alzheimers comparing portfolio strategies and golf clubs"

"what's the weather like?"

"what weather? where's my checkbook? looks like the kenyan muslim hordes are in the back 40, and baying for my blood"

It's a fine line between homage, parody, and consumer opportunism. Jess Walter

EU Observer: EU funds theft greater than reported
Last year's EU budget amounted to €125.5 billion but a large amount is allegedly stolen primarily in the areas of EU agricultural and regional development programmes. Member states manage 80 percent of the EU budget with national authorities in charge of how it is spent and who and how to prosecute suspected fraudsters.

But patchy judicial systems and low recovery rates prompted the commission to table an anti-fraud directive in July that would provide for an EU response to the problem. Those who commit the crime, she noted, often simply go to member states where prosecution is extremely low or non-existent.

Reding told deputies that the EU needs a "federal law" to ensure the money is better spent and deter criminals from seeking refuge in certain member states.

Limbaugh [Limbaugh]: Penises now '10 percent smaller' and shrinking because of `feminazis'

The conservative radio host pointed to an Italian study which found that the average male penis was 10 percent smaller than 50 years ago. Researchers cited weight gain around the waist, smoking, stress and environmental pollutants as factors.

But Limbaugh wasn't buying that explanation.

"I think it's feminism," he declared. "If it's tied to the last 50 years -- the average size of [a male's] member is 10 percent smaller than 50 years -- it has to be the feminazis, the chickification and everything else."

Tory chief whip is reported to have got into an altercation with the machinegun toting police guard on the gate of downing street, when the officer refused to open the main gate for him on his bycicle and asked him to go through the side pedestrian gate.

Phrases involved are said to include "Know your fucking place you Fucking Pleb"

of course, Wags are already calling it gategate

Minister Sorry Over Gate Row With Police

Conservative Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell was forced to deny allegations he called police "plebs" and "morons" during the argument.

According to The Sun, he swore at the officer after he was stopped from leaving through the famous gates on his bicycle.

The paper quoted Mr Mitchell, 56, as saying: "Open this gate, I'm the Chief Whip. I'm telling you - I'm the Chief Whip and I'm coming through these gates."

His view of the police, undoubtedly that of most of his class, is that their role is to protect him from the underclass, not to get in his way

But there is an extra, happier detail for the police officer. I'm told he is not on shift but has been told he has to come in to Number 10 to meet Mitchell for the apology.

As a result, he has been assured that he will be paid overtime. So he will be paid to watch Thrasher eat up his ministerial humble pie. Nice.

I think the important thing here is the appalling lack of a bike gate at Downing Street, in all probability a result of a lack of bike roads.
