Waiting until the end of the month will avoid souring the March 25 celebrations in Rome of the 60th anniversary of the EU's founding treaty and allow her to sidestep the Dutch election on March 15 and the Scottish National Party's conference on March 17-18.

The House of Lords then conceded, passing the bill unamended late on Monday.

`Shame on you'

The Lords amendment demanding protections for more than three million Europeans living in Britain was defeated by 335 votes to 287 by MPs - prompting shouts of "shame on you" from protesters outside.

An independent Scotland would have to join the back of the queue if it wanted to rejoin the EU, the Spanish foreign minister has said.

Responding to Monday's announcement from Scotland's first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, that she intends to hold a second independence referendum , Alfonso Dastis said Spain was opposed to the fracturing of the UK.

He said: "Spain supports the integrity of the United Kingdom and does not encourage secessions or divisions in any of the member states. We prefer things to stay as they are."

Supports the integrity of the UK? Does that mean they've finally given up on Gibraltar?

Rather, ersatz republicans of ES will not give into Cataluyna. That is the greatest "threat" to the concept of the integrity of the state is nested. Ergo, Scotland's inchoate referendum on independence must die, for example.

That's a major mistake on the part of the SNP. They really should have spent the last 6 months oiling the path with the rest of the EU so that stuff like this wasn't going to happen. Especially the day after they announce their referendum. That's amateur hour.

This blows a hole through their entire policy of replacing the UK in the EU.

In other words, I am to understand, the SNP has presented no conforming public policy to apply for EU membership.

SNP has NOT articulated any path to EU membership.

Moreover, constituents are confused about EU membership benefits, because, primarily, EC has NOT publicly entertained UK division. But we know, EC can allow UK devolution by doing nothing. Structures of tje UK political economy have been been a travesty of equity for centuries. It is meant to collapse under the weight of disenfranchisement at the core as well as "commonwealth" nations, confederate governments. EU will ultimately pick up pieces of dissent. Tories don't get that.

I agree, that is a true assessment of Scotland's political EU position viz. colonial U.K.

I'm not so sure. The EU could break the UK because doing so is actually easier than not. But picking up the pieces? That requires some facilitation and planning that has been completely absent in the Union.

The first exit polls are in for the Netherlands elections. They show Rutte's VVD party on 31 seats, while Geert Wilders PVV is on 19, the same as the CDA and D66.

tbh the UK media seem to have just reacted in shock to this. It's so stupid that they can't make any sense to it, editing a newspaper is not a part time job, even a shitty rag like the Evening Standard requires full attention.

the most common interpretation is that Osborne has it in for Theresa May and Brexit generally, so will use the paper as a platform for sustained attacks. Also, the owner is Russian where such conflicts are common and so wouldn't know this is an issue here.

Hurriyet daily news
Turkey's red meat association has ordered a consignment of prize Dutch cattle to be sent back to the Netherlands, saying it no longer wants to farm the cows due to the diplomatic crisis between the countries.

Bülent Tunç, the head of the Turkish Association of Red Meat Producers, told the Turkish media that a symbolic consignment of 40 Holstein Friesian cattle was already being sent back to the Netherlands.

"The Dutch Holstein cows have become very common in our country. But this breed is starting to cause serious problems," he told the Anadolu news agency.

"In future we do not want animal products from Holland. The first batch of Holsteins have been loaded and we will send them back," he added.

But conservative Republicans in Congress are eager for him to go a step further. They want him to assert US power over such bodies by taking a hard line and opposing further IMF involvement in Greece, which is sliding towards another crisis this summer unless its European creditors agree to cover billions more in debt payments.

A bill introduced on Thursday by Bill Huizenga, a Michigan conservative who was first elected to Congress with Tea party backing in 2011, calls for the Trump administration to oppose any further IMF participation in a Greek bailout. Should the US fail to achieve that aim, the bill would also require the US to oppose any broader IMF quota reforms until Greece had repaid all of its debts to the IMF.

"The IMF is supposed to be a lender of last resort, not a fig leaf of first resort for eurozone members," Mr Huizenga said.

Will NSA/FBI/CIA/FISA authorities release The Flynn Tapes to demonstrate the "national security" power of the state to surveille private citizens communicating with Axis of Evil nationals? Trump paid $38 million in taxes in 2005: White House - Reuters
President Donald Trump paid $38 million in taxes on more than $150 million in income in 2005, the White House said on Tuesday, responding to an MSNBC report that the network had obtained two pages of the returns.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said she received the documents from journalist David Cay Johnston, who said on her show that he received them in the mail.

The returns, which MSNBC posted on its website, showed Trump paid an effective federal tax rate of 25 percent in 2005 after writing off $100 million in losses.

The White House said in a statement that Trump took into account "large scale depreciation for construction."

Trump has repeatedly refused to release his tax returns, drawing criticism throughout his campaign last year and speculation from his political rivals he was hiding something.

Journalist Who Received Trump Tax Return Questions If Trump Leaked It Himself - Huffington Post

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston suggested Tuesday night on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show" that President Donald Trump himself may have been the unknown source who sent two pages of his 2005 tax return to the journalist.

"It came in the mail over the transom," Johnston told Maddow, following the host's roughly 25-minute build-up before discussing the documents in detail. "There is absolutely nothing improper about journalists -- if you haven't solicited something -- getting it over the transom. Let me point out, it's entirely possible that Donald sent this to me. Donald Trump has, over the years, leaked all sorts of things."

Johnston didn't indicate he has any actual evidence Trump was the source, but he does know Trump's tendencies well after decades of covering him.

White House Promotes Fake News Article Praising Trump Budget - Daily Beast
On Friday, the White House blasted out an email that included headlines from and links to favorable news articles--it's just that one of those links was to a satirical comedy piece written by Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri that mocks President Donald Trump's new budget blueprint.

Petri's "analysis," titled, "Trump's budget makes perfect sense and will fix America, and I will tell you why," includes such lines as "AMERICA WILL BE STRONGER THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN! Anyone who survives will be a gun covered in the fur of a rare mammal, capable of fighting disease with a single muscular flex. RAW POWER! HARD RAW POWER GRRRRRR HISSS POW!"

The US officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the United States has observed what appeared to be Russian special forces and drones at Sidi Barrani, about 60 miles (100 km) from the Egypt-Libya border.

Egyptian security sources offered more detail, describing a 22-member Russian commando unit, but declined to discuss its mission. They added that Russia also used another Egyptian base farther east in Marsa Matrouh in early February.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D - NH) is pushing a bill that would seek a Justice Department investigation of whether television station RT America is "coordinating with the Russian government," saying there is reason to believe that there are financial ties between the channel and the Russian government, and that "the American public has a right to know if that is the case."
I wonder how much it will cost the Justice Department to investigate the obvious. Once they are done, maybe they can check the BBC as well. I suspect there may be financial ties between them and the British government.

The US announces that merchant ships whose owners ask for guns will be given them, and Navy crews to operate them, crews under their own orders rather than those of the ship captain. The US pretends that this arrangement preserves those ships' status as civilian and not belligerent under international law. Germany, of course, disagrees.

That is the motto of the US Postal service which has endured some extremely counter-productive managerial dictates from US Congress in operations to fulfill of its mission to deliver correspondence of all wghts and sizes.

AMZN not so much. Yet. AMZN is not a GSE. AMZN is an "agile" publicly traded corporation ("body" of human labor) unlike USPS. Corporate logistic operations are not governed by USPS ultimata. That is a good thing for me.

I'd rather not process retail transactions in a blizzard. And I'm grateful that my employer summarily ended operations. despite customer inconveniences or delivery delays of life-saving commodities such as pet anxiety "meds" and DYI christianty manuals.

Well, I was caught in one of those Fed-X situations and it wasn't even all that bad. They were just understaffed and caught by a storm that didn't even close the roads - at least between myself and their Arkansas office. I needed medical supplies for wound dressing when I had a 4" dia. hole in the skin on my left ankle and a hole within that down to my tendon of Achilles, both involved with MRSA. The office manager drove them over two days late.
