Early Friday Photography Blog No. 62

by LEP
Thu Nov 20th, 2008 at 01:21:54 PM EST

Introducing "Irving" (our second adopted stray) to ET.

Mme. LEP and estHer want to call "Irving" "Boby" after Boby Lapointe because Irving has a broken tail which stands straight up, thus La pointe. I think you have to be French to get it. But I'm refusing to call him "Boby;" to me he's always "Irving"- because he's such a schlub. When he sits down on the table the whole house shakes. To me thats an "Irving."

Today, its "Photos as usual" again along with "ask the expert."

Happy Posting :-)

Early Friday Photography Blog No. 60

by LEP
Thu Nov 6th, 2008 at 10:26:54 AM EST

Greetings. Meet the newest member of the LEP family, ZELDA, along with Mme. LEP. Zelda is a stray who adopted us, especially estHer and Mme. LEP. Zelda is quite happy to be inside and eating regularly. Mme. LEP is quite happy to have a new baby without having to go through a long pregnancy and the birthing.

So today's special subject is Cats of the LEP family. If you don't have any of those, well, post some photos of your own cats or even other peoples' cats. And if you don't have those, then dogs...or other animals.
Happy Posting!

Early Friday Photography Blog No 56

by LEP
Thu Oct 9th, 2008 at 01:16:00 PM EST

Welcome to the ET photo blog No. 56. Well, it's starting to be gloomy Autumn when stock markets tend to crash and unfortunately, this time, banks start to fail. But Autumn and Winter will fly by and in March it will be time for the rebirth.
So on this gloomy today, I propose you grab an alcoholic beverage of your choice and regard what we hope is ahead of us in the not too distant future.

Final Diary- Friday evening meetup in Mouffetard. [UPDATED]

by LEP
Thu Sep 18th, 2008 at 11:30:38 PM EST

Last evening I spent a few hours in the Quartier Mouffetard and found what I think would be a good restaurant to meet at.  It's called the Assiette Aux Fromages and the address is 25, rue Mouffetard. Here's two photos of the entrance and the rear room which can accommodate us.

From Misc-Do not delete-3

From Misc-Do not delete-3

If we want to meet here I should reserve by Tuesday. I had a fixed price meal for 17 euros which included onion soup, boeuf bourgignon and ice cream. I took a 1/2 bottle of sparking water which was 5 euros. The food was good for 17 euros which is not expensive. There are not too many places that can put 15+ people together. Frankly, I ate too much and was stuffed, and I'm a good eater.
I would suggest that we meet here about 7:30 have a drink and eat at 8:00. We can then stroll through the quarter which seems more lively and interesting after dark.
Now I have two questions. Should I negotiate a fixed price menu which would include onion soup or gespachio, a large salad (vegetarian or with meat) and a quarter bottle of red wine) and possibly desert or coffee?

Second I'd like everyone to verify if they're coming. This is the current list of attendees: LEP, dvx, Chris C. and Solveig, Bob, Helen, Metavision, Izzy, someone, In Wales, Melanchthon, Metatone, Linca and Damia, Frank S., Cyrille, the stormy present, Crazy Horse, Rafi77630, Trond Ove and friend, afew, Fran and Colman and Sam +offspring.
I count 25. Could everyone please verify as soon as possible and give your opinion if I should negotiate a menu.

P.S. To get from metro Cardinal Lemoine to the restaurant just walk uphill on rue du Cardinal Lemoine, you'll reach a picturesque Place, turn right and a quick left on rue Mouffetard.

UPDATE. I just spoke to the owner of the restaurant and he will give us a fixed price menu for 20 euros, to include soupe, large salad, quart de vin, dessert and coffee. We will pay additional for drinks before dinner and and any wine in excess of the quarter bottle. I'll reserve tomorrow night when I have a full count of attendees.

[FINAL UPDATE] Diary concerning Friday evening Paris meetup.

by LEP
Fri Sep 12th, 2008 at 04:50:11 PM EST

Just a short diary to organize a Friday evening meetup on Sept. 19.
I am suggesting that we meet aroud 3:30 p.m. at Pere Lachaise cemetary in the north of Paris, one of the most famous cemetaries in the world (Jim Morrison is there as is Oscar Wilde and hundreds of famous others), and a place I have never been to. We would tour that for a couple of hours and then amble over to the Belleville Chainatown for a 7 p.m. dinner.
Those who could not make the tour could meet us at the restaurant.
As far as I know the following ET'ers are interested.
Chris C, and Solveig, Frank S., Fran, Melanchton and yours truly, LEP.
If anyone else want to join us, either for the tour or just the dinner please let me know and I'll hunt out a restaurant next week. Update [2008-9-6 4:23:35 by LEP]: If you want to read about Pere Lachaise here's the link to wikipedia.

I have a different suggestion if visiting a cemetary doesn't turn on a lot of people; ie., to visit the Mouffetard quarter just behind the Latin Quarter. It's very old and picturesque filled with cafe's and restaurants. It shouldn't be packed with tourists in September. That might please Helen more since we can walk a little, drink, walk some more and then eat. Please express your preference.

[FINAL UPDATE] OK- Quartier Mouffetard it is. We will meet at 5:30-6:00 p.m. at the metreo station "Cardinal Lemoine" which is on line 10 which most of you will be using to come east from Passy. (If you are taking Line 6 from Passy you change to Line 10 at "Le Motte Piquet-Grennelle" direction Gare d'Austerlitz and it's 9 stops from there. Here's the list of who I think is coming: LEP, dvx, Chris C. and Solveig, Bob and Liliana, Helen, Metavision, Izzy, someone? geezer in Paris, (In Wales, Melanchton, Metatone, Migeru, Linca Frank S. and Fran? for dinner.) Please add your name in the comments section if I missed anyone. If we get more I'll have to head there next week and find a restaurant that can handle us. (I always draw the difficult assignments.)

I'll put my portable telephone number here a few days before the meetup.

Fri Aug 22nd, 2008 at 03:05:45 AM EST

Supplicant: O' Great Oracle. Please tell me where I can display all my great photographs from this summer.

Oracle: It is said that there is an excellent photography blog at eurotrib.com, which appears each Friday. It is also said that this photo blog is currently

Oracle (continued) but I have heard that if you go to the eurotrib on the twenty ninth day of August, in the year two thousand and eight there will be a brand new photography blog created by a woman from the Pays de Galle. She has vowed to "inundate" the photography blog with her works. So be sure to show up on that day and in the meanwhile you may practice in this space.

Bring it on, woman from the Pays de Galle! And Happy Dog Days of Summer!

Sun Jul 27th, 2008 at 09:58:49 AM EST

Welcome to the 45th ET Photo Blog. Since it's the middle of summer and it's a bit slow around here we'll do like they do on TV; reruns. In addition to our photos as usual and ask the experts we'll do the best of the first year of the Photo Blog.

Of course I can only post mine and estHer's photos so anyone who wants to contribute can determine their own best and post them.

I'll choose as the lead photo one of estHer's best which may have been posted twice and has been highly recommended. And it's appropriate for summer too.

Happy posting!

Rainy Saturday afternoon joke blog.

by LEP
Sat May 31st, 2008 at 08:14:18 AM EST

I'll start.

This twelve year old kid is sitting on a bench in a public park. He's got about six or seven candy bars on his lap and he's eating away. First one, second one, third; then this man about sixty five sits down next to him and strikes up a conversation. "You know, eating all those candy bars is not good for your health, they're loaded with sugar, will give you pimples and could cause diabetes"
The kid looks at him for a minute and says: "you know, my grandpa lived to a hundred and three." The man says, "oh yeah, did he eat candy bars?"

The kid replies: "No, he minded his own freakin' business."
