from the diaries. Article now posted in full below the fold. --Jérôme
I am new to this site, so please bear with me if this diary transgresses the local norms a little. I wrote an essay about the French riots which I thought readers of this blog might find interesting; maybe even controversial.
Among the points I address are: why how the French resolve the tension between equality and liberty is key to understanding what's going on; what makes French racism different from the American variety; why France does not have race riots; the role of globalization; the heavy price France pays for breeding an out-of-touch political elite, etc.
Oh, and I cite an article by Jerome, so my essay can't be that bad.
So, now, in the most self-serving way, all that's left for me to say is happy reading!
