Why should the US give up control of Domain Name Services

As an American, I was hoping to get some feedback from some of you in other parts of the world as to why the United State should give up control of the root domain name servers.

I don't want the reasons that include how it affects other countries, those are obvious and they are well covered in the news. What I would like to hear are the reasons that would convince the United States to give up something that is in their control.

It is a theoretical gain for other countries, but it is a loss for the USA. I have yet to read a report that suggests any reasons that it would be in our interest to give up control. You would think that diplomats would understand that a key point in negotiations is now "what I want is..." but "what you get out of this is...".

What is the rest of the world offering to offset the control that the United States is giving up?
