Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Tomas Hirsch Goldschmidt does the Nadir, Bertinotti, Lafontaine. He just announced to his jubilant followers, who ironocally shouted: Unidos venceremos, that he will not vote for Michelle Bachelet. Hirsch: 'Yo voto Nulo'.

Facit: Ein Hänschen hat jede Baustelle.

What an idiot. The two right-wing candidates together had more votes than Bachelet.

Hm, I don't know - the added advantage is just 2.74%, well within the range one'd expect to ignore Goldschmidt's call if Bachelet makes a plea to them, while the hate between the two right-wingers can safely be predicted to eliminate even more from Piñera. And that's just the surface - also consider that by gaining absolute majority, the Centre-Left now won't have to rely on the hard left in the parliament, undermining a right-wing scare tactic that previously must have worked on some centrists - and Goldschmidt's declaration now only strenghtens that effect.

It really sticks out that 2PP of the Hard Left already voted Bachelet, while a full 8PP of the centre-left voted right.

Yeah, they were probably accompanied by their parents who lived thru' the Pinochet dictatorship and looked over their shoulders in the voting booth to make sure that the kids made their cross at the right place.

Otherwise - no more car keys from daddy for Friday night's disco.

Do you mean the 8 percentage point centre-leftists who voted for the heirs of Pinochet rather than Bachelet?

Anyway, why would those parents want their children to vote differently on President only?

Perhaps because they are left wing liberals (in the European sense of the word)? ;-)
