She was involved in a lot of humanitarian work, which the NYT does not say much about.

Ms Osthoff has been described as crazy, but I think she knew what she was doing and had the skills. "Stubborn" is I think a better description than "crazy."

I think this might be a good moment to remember another great human rights activist, who was not as lucky. Marla Ruzicka from Washington State was killed by a road side bomb in Iraq in April. Her 29th birthday was supposed to be in two weeks...
