Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

I am not scared, but that's because I am a pessimist. I prepared for a decade of insanity in January 2002.

Why January 2002?

Actually, two weeks earlier. No particular reason, I guess it finally sunk in for me as I watched the course the Afghanistan War was taking. 'Insane' rant I wrote then:

The new century gets continually worse. I seem to witness the death throes of the USA, while jackals pop up all around the rest of the world. The actual crumbling may still be 50 years away, but blinded by their military and economic might, its leaders destroy its foreign influence and positive image, and dismantle it from within, all the while totally convinced of the opposite, yet with majority support. And each major alternative is not just worse, but also gets itself worse. It's like the fall of Rome, and Christianity again plays a prime role. Shit, will I have to remember the nineties as the Golden Age?...

Best days of our life.

Can't wait for the day I'm so old that I just don't care anymore....

Yes, why wait until January 2002?
I remember clearly saying to myself on that Tuesday afternoon, "shit, they're going to go berseck and self-righteous and it's going to be a big mess"

Well, my bad feelings started in the summer of 2000, and on that Tuesday I thought the same especially after checking out my regular internet forum to find some friends turned into raging genocidal lunatics, but I don't think either you or I expected a protracted, building-up destruction that involves other power centres of the world too - more like some insane acts in quick reaction.

building-up destruction

Gosh, my English is builds up in destruction... I should have put it as: "step-by-step worsening destruction" or something.

1999. It started going wrong after the eclipse and officially went crazy towards the end of the year.

I'd like to think it wil switch back at some point, but I suspect it will get worse before it gets better.

This year I finally resigned myself to 'Collectively - we're screwed.'

Oh - and Happy Easter everyone. :)

What would a world look like without the Doom Meme? Wouldn't it be interesting if that happened? (Or would everyone find it too boring?)

What was it for you?

Yes, that describes my expectations. Iran is even wrose an idea than Iraq, but there will be ideas worse than even Iran.
